WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The 16th ranked Northwood University (Fla.) women's soccer team won their eighth straight game as they held off Johnson & Wales University 2-1 on Friday.
The Lady Seahawks are unbeaten in their last 11 contests this season and have won 44 consecutive games dating back to October of 2009. They improved to 10-4-2 overall and 7-0 in the Sun Conference.
Johanna Engberg scored twice late in the first half to lead the offense.
Engberg received a pass from Hanna Lindstrom and fired a shot into the net at 36:45 into the first half. Engberg also finished near the net after taking a pass from Julia Axengren with less than five minutes remaining before halftime.
The Wildcats cut the deficit to 2-1 on a goal by Melissa Sanchez at the 65:18 mark of the second half.
The Lady Seahawks registered 16 shots and seven shots on goal while the Wildcats had three shots on goal.
Johnson & Wales dropped to 3-8-2 overall and 2-4-1 in conference games.
The Lady Seahawks will head back to the field to host Southeastern(Fla.) on Thursday, October 23 at 3 p.m.
