Jack Marder has been named the Assistant Coach for Keiser Baseball. Marder will resume the role of Josh Lopez who recently became an assistant coach with the St. Louis Cardinals' Single A affiliate, Peoria Chiefs. Marder will handle the recruiting aspects of the baseball program.
Â
Marder played for the University of Oregon as both a catcher and an infielder, also competing in the Seattle Mariners organization. Marder was most recently a member of the Purdue baseball staff, serving as the volunteer assistant coach. Jack also served as an undergraduate coach at the University of Oregon in 2015 and 2016 while finishing his degree in political science.
Â
"I am incredibly excited to be part of Keiser University and Coach Kennedy's staff," stated Marder. "It is a great opportunity for me and something I simply could not pass up. Florida baseball is considered amongst the highest level in the United States. I look forward to working with our players to reach individual and team goals."
Â
The Calabasas, Calif., native was drafted twice during his playing career, getting selected after his senior year of high school by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft and later by the Seattle Mariners in 2011 as a draft-eligible sophomore at Oregon. Marder advanced from a 30
th-round pick to the 16
th round after his two collegiate seasons under Oregon head coach George Horton. In September 2012, Marder played for Israel at a World Baseball Classic qualification round tournament in Florida.
Â
Marder's coaching career also found him serving as an assistant coach for the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod League in the summers of 2014 and 2015. Marder also coached in USA Baseball's National Team Identification Series, a tournament held in Cary, N.C.
Â
Marder's sister Sam was a three-time All-American catcher at Ohio State (2007-10), played professionally in the National Pro Fastpitch League and is currently an assistant coach with the softball program at Texas Tech. Sam was inducted into the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016.
Â
"I couldn't be more excited to add Coach Marder to our staff," stated Keiser Baseball Head CoachÂ
Jeremy Kennedy. "He is a very gifted young coach who will make a tremendous impact on our program. He has played and coached at the highest level of college baseball for some of the best coaches in college baseball. He also has a wealth of playing experience at the professional level. We are very fortunate to be able to bring in a coach of his caliber in the new semester. I believe this is another sign of the direction that Keiser Baseball is headed."
Â
Marder's peers had this to say:
"Jack Marder is one of the young rising stars in our industry. I knew him first as a gritty player in the California League with the Seattle Mariners and later as a member of the Israel team in the World Baseball Classic. Now I have had the great pleasure of seeing him coach and develop players at the University of Oregon and most recently at Falmouth in the Cape Cod League. He has the "IT" factor and will be a real asset to the program at Keiser University".
~ Jerry Weinstein (Special Advisor to Scouting and Player Development/Colorado Rockies)
Â
"Jack Marder was an integral part of the University of Oregon baseball program both as a player and a coach. His assistance with the hitters, catchers and defensive positioning played a great role in our success during his time with us as a coach. Jack had the unique ability to relate to each player individually and guide them through their development by sharing his knowledge and experiences. His work ethic, attention to detail, and sheer knowledge of the game is matched by very few. Combining all of this with his infectious personality, Jack will without a doubt make himself into one of the best in this industry. Jack will have an immediate impact in leading Keiser to its fullest potential."
~ George Horton (University of Oregon Head Baseball Coach)
