Mio Tanaka Named NAIA Defensive Player of the Week

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced this week's national award winners on Tuesday, with Keiser goalkeeper Mio Tanaka earning Defensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career.

  • This week's honor is the first national honor of her career
  • A two-time Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week 
  • Recorded two more clean sheets this past week, pushing her season shutout total to four
  • Has not allowed a goal in 392 minutes, stretching her streak to four consecutive shutouts
  • Both shutouts came against ranked opposition, blanking No. 8 Grace (Ind.) and No. 1 Cumberlands (Ky.)
  • Turned away five shots on the week without conceding, going a perfect 2-0 in goal
  • Leads the conference in goals against average at 0.33 on the season
  • Earned her first Defensive Player of the Week honor of the year after going 1-0-1 with a season-high four saves in a 1-1 draw with No. 8 William Carey, then posting her first shutout of the season in a 2-0 win over Carroll (Mont.)
  • Has played every minute in net for the Seahawks this season
  • 10th career clean sheet at Keiser
 

Keiser returns to action Wednesday, September 16th, traveling to Miami Gardens to take on St. Thomas. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
