MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. The Keiser University softball team swept a Saturday doubleheader against St. Thomas University at the St. Thomas campus in Miami Gardens, winning Game One 8-4 and then completing the sweep with a dominant 8-0 shutout in Game Two to close out the weekend series. The Seahawks improved to 38-4 on the season, outscoring the Bobcats 16-4 across the day as nearly every player in the lineup made a meaningful contribution.
In Game One, Keiser came out of the gates swinging. Genesis Iglesias drilled a two-run home run to left field in the first inning after Kaci Kidd drew a lead-off walk and Faith Campos moved her over with a sacrifice bunt, putting the Seahawks up 2-0 before the Bobcats even had a chance to settle in. Jordan Brantley followed in the second with a lead-off solo home run to left to push the advantage to 3-0. St. Thomas battled back to pull within one at 4-3 by the end of the fourth, aided in part by a Keiser error, but Keiser answered with a four-run seventh inning that put the game away. Macy Schaaf singled through the middle with runners on second and third to plate two, then Olivia Shoemaker followed with a two-run single through the left side to cap the 8-4 victory. Presley Wright started and worked three innings before Maggie Miller came on in relief, tossing four scoreless innings to earn the win.
Game Two was all Keiser from start to finish. The Seahawks erupted for four runs in the first inning on a five-hit barrage that featured RBI singles from Macy Schaaf and Trinity Rohrer and an RBI double from both Sarah Phipps and Olivia Shoemaker. Keiser added a fifth run in the second on a Genesis Iglesias RBI groundout and capped the scoring with a three-run fourth that included a two-RBI single from Trinity Rohrer and an Olivia Shoemaker sacrifice fly. Mackenzie Masternak was masterful in the circle, tossing a complete-game shutout over six innings, allowing just four hits, walking one, and striking out four on 90 pitches. St. Thomas went down in order in the final two innings, and the game was called after six with Keiser ahead 8-0.
