MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Mackenzie Masternak was nearly untouchable from the jump, and No. 11 Keiser softball wasted no time making it a statement afternoon in Carol City. The Seahawks erupted for seven runs in the opening frame and never looked back, rolling to a 13-0 run-rule victory over Florida Memorial in five innings.
Florida Memorial had no answer for Keiser from the opening pitch, and the Lions' defense and battery made things worse in a hurry. Pitcher Leny Hoyos was overwhelmed in the first inning, issuing four walks and surrendering a parade of stolen bases as the Seahawks took full advantage. By the time the Seahawks were done pouring it on in the first, a seven-run deficit had essentially ended any drama. The Lions managed just two hits on the afternoon against a Keiser staff that was locked in and mustered no runs across all five frames.
