No. 3 Keiser men's tennis dominated at home Friday, defeating No. 4 Southeastern 4-1 at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center to improve to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in Sun Conference play. The Seahawks swept the doubles point and carried that momentum into singles, winning three of the first four completed courts.
- Dubas opened singles on court five, cruising past Lafazanos 6-0, 6-3
- De La Riva put Southeastern on the board on court three, defeating King 6-1, 6-4
- No. 3 Alam kept the pressure on for the Seahawks on court two, rolling past No. 9 Gallego 6-2, 6-2
- No. 11 Liljekvist sealed the match on court one, taking down No. 12 Fernandez 6-3, 6-4
- Courts four and six were suspended when the match was clinched, with Rivadeneira and No. 16 Ornia tied at one set apiece and Santos leading Nikolas Kumria 3-0 in the second set on court six
When asked about today's result, Head Coach
Ali Borhani had this to say: "On a day where the best player in the country is sick and not at his best, we had Matt and Shaheed step on and take care of their singles matches fast and with great energy. I think this is a statement for the men, as we didn't play our best today and found a way to win 4-1. Looking forward, we still need to get better with our energy on all courts and play big on big points."
Didrik Liljekvist on the result: "Proud of the boys today, taking care of doubles quickly and then getting a few first sets quick in singles. We showed today that we are the better team and although I would like some more energy from my boys, we'll take the result."
Keiser returns to the courts next week to play Division II, No. 36 Lynn in Boca Raton on Wednesday, March 25. First serve from the Perper Tennis Complex is set for 2:00 p.m.
