LAKELAND, Fla. – Despite a game-high 20-point performance from Caidyn Cannon, Keiser women's basketball dropped a conference road game to (rv) Southeastern, 59-46, on Saturday evening at The Furnace.
The Seahawks held a 38-36 advantage heading into the final quarter, but (rv) Southeastern used a dominant fourth quarter to seize control, outscoring Keiser 23-8 over the final 10 minutes.
Cannon paced the Seahawks offensively, finishing with 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field while adding six rebounds and two assists. The senior guard was efficient through the first three quarters, scoring 17 of her 20 points before the final frame.
Avrie Schmidt provided a solid secondary scoring option with nine points on 4-of-8 shooting, including a three-pointer, while also grabbing four rebounds. Aly Avrach came off the bench to contribute eight points on 3-of-6 shooting, including two three-pointers.
Emelia O'Gilvie contributed across the stat sheet with three points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals in a team-high 35 minutes of action. Carolina de Domingo recorded seven rebounds, two steals, and a blocked shot while facilitating the offense with two assists.
The Seahawks struggled to find offensive rhythm in the final period, shooting just 37.8 percent from the field (17-of-45) for the game and 25.0 percent from three-point range (4-of-16). Keiser also battled turnovers, committing 22 on the night compared to just 10 assists.
Keiser controlled the glass, outrebounding Southeastern 35-23, but the Fire made their shots in the final frame of the evening. Mya Herman and Sarah Davis each scored 13 points to lead Southeastern's balanced attack, while Grace Field added 10 points and five assists.
The Seahawks will look to bounce back when they return to action next week, welcoming Webber International on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 5:30 PM.
