Lakeland, Fla. — Keiser women's basketball season came to an end Friday night at The Furnace in Lakeland, falling to Webber International 72-54 in the Sun Conference Semifinal to finish the year at 19-9. The Seahawks got off to a promising start — Avrie Schmidt opened the scoring with a layup off a Carolina de Domingo assist, and Keiser built a quick 4-0 lead before Webber settled in. Jasmyn Hale drained a three-pointer late in the first quarter to send the Seahawks into the second up 14-13, but that lead would be the last time they'd be on top. Webber began to take control in the second quarter, with Jaiden Ross and Adaya Montalvo catching fire while Keiser's offense sputtered, and the Seahawks trudged into halftime down 31-25 after being outscored 17-11.

The third quarter was the dagger. Webber erupted for 26 points while holding Keiser to just 11, with Webber's Camryn Patterson putting on a clinic with 7 points and 3 steals in the period alone. By the end of the third, the deficit had ballooned to 57-36, and Keiser was running out of time. The fourth quarter gave the Seahawk faithful a fleeting moment of hope — Satori Griffin drilled back-to-back threes, Schmidt converted an and-one, and Caidyn Cannon's pair of steals helped fuel a run that briefly cut the lead to 62-51 when Hale connected from deep with just over three minutes to play. But Webber responded with a closing 10-3 burst, capped by Ross sealing the game at the line, to end any comeback hopes.

Schmidt was Keiser's best player on the night, leading the team with 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting and adding four rebounds. Satori Griffin chipped in 12 points, all from three-point range, going 3-of-7 from deep and providing most of her damage in the fourth. Hale added 10 points and a team-high 3 steals, though she struggled to find her shot, going 4-of-13 from the field. De Domingo ran the offense with precision, dishing out 8 assists in 23 minutes, while Cannon was the defensive pest Keiser needed, finishing with four steals despite a quiet scoring night. Turnovers were ultimately the fatal flaw — Keiser gave the ball away 22 times and Webber converted those miscues into 25 points. The Seahawks also shot just 36.4% from the field compared to Webber's 55.1%, and there was simply no recovering from the third-quarter collapse.

Game Notes

  • The Seahawks finish the season 19-9 under HC Matthew Strickland in his first season at Keiser
  • Keiser earned three all-conference honorees, Caidyn Cannon, Satori Griffin and Avrie Schmidt
  • The Seahawks' 22 turnovers were the story of the game — Webber converted those miscues into 25 points, more than enough to account for the final 18-point margin
  • Avrie Schmidt led Keiser with 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting and was the only Seahawk to score in all four quarters, providing the team's most consistent offensive presence throughout
  • Satori Griffin went 3-of-7 from three-point range for 12 points, with all of her production coming from beyond the arc — every one of her field goals was a three-pointer.
  • Carolina de Domingo did not attempt a single field goal in the second half, yet still finished with 8 assists, quietly running the offense and setting up teammates without looking for her own shot
  • Keiser shot just 2-of-13 from three in the first half before warming up slightly in the second, finishing the game 8-of-25 from deep as the perimeter became their primary offensive weapon by necessity
  • Jasmyn Hale posted 10 points and 3 steals but went 4-of-13 from the field, with nine of her 13 attempts coming from three-point range — an aggressive approach that didn't pay off consistently
  • Keiser's fourth quarter was their best of the game, scoring 18 points on improved shooting and back-to-back triples from Griffin, briefly cutting the deficit to 11 before Webber closed the door
  • Keiser held a lead of up to 4 points in the first quarter — their largest lead of the game per the data — making the final 18-point margin a reflection of how badly the middle two quarters went

  • Ties: 0
  • Lead Changes: 1
  • Largest Lead: Keiser (4) Webber International (23)
