No. 2 Keiser women's lacrosse rolled to a 21-4 win at home on Friday afternoon at the Multi-Purpose Field in West Palm Beach, Fla.
The Seahawks wasted no time establishing their dominance, scoring 10 unanswered goals in the opening quarter to put the game away early.
Isabelle Vrensen was the standout of the period, netting three of those goals. The Seahawks piled on through contributions from
Baylee Walker,
MacKenzie Gibaud,
Milena Isturiz,
Jia Schweigert, and
Kate Griffin. Ottawa showed some fight in the second quarter, posting two goals while holding Keiser to just two of their own. Rilee Barnett put the Braves on the board with a free-position goal at 8:34, then added a second at 6:44 off a ground ball from Faith Ruoff. Keiser, however, responded with a free-position goal from Isturiz in the final seconds of the half to push the lead to 12-2 at the break.
Keiser came out of halftime with renewed aggression, reeling off five straight goals to effectively end any hope of an Ottawa comeback. Ferris opened the quarter with a goal at 13:57 off an assist from Walker, and Vrensen added her fifth of the game shortly after.
MacKenzie Gibaud and Ferris both scored before Ottawa's Curstin Brown ended the drought with a goal at 5:42, cutting the deficit to 16-3. With the game well in hand, Keiser continued to apply pressure, adding four more goals in the final quarter. Vrensen scored again at 9:41 off a Walker assist, before Ferris set up Griffin at 3:59. McCall added a solo goal at 2:25, and
Lucy Single closed out the scoring with a goal at 0:31 off a
Malea Blackmore assist. Ottawa's Ashlyn Lopez did convert a free-position goal at 5:51 to give the Braves their fourth and final tally, but it was little consolation as Keiser cruised to a dominant 21-4 victory.
Keiser's next game will be a neutral-site contest against Division III Kean College in Ave Maria, Fla. The opening draw control from Gyrene Field is set for 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 8.
