WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. - Keiser women's basketball celebrated its seniors in front of fans Wednesday evening, putting together a competitive showing before falling to Florida Memorial 64-55 in their final home conference match up of the season.
Caidyn Cannon led the way for the Seahawks with a 17 points on efficient 8-of-10 shooting, adding seven rebounds in a dominant interior performance. Avrie Schmidt was equally impressive, finishing with 16 points and six rebounds — including a burst of nine points in the second quarter that kept Keiser within striking distance heading into halftime.
The Lions got out to a fast start, building a 20-11 lead after the first quarter behind Kalea Rainey, who poured in 10 points in the opening period. But the Seahawks responded with their best basketball of the first half in the second quarter, with Schmidt going to work in the paint and Satori Griffin coming up with two steals to generate offense. Keiser trailed 33-23 at the break.
The third quarter remained competitive as Cannon continued to attack the basket and Emelia O'Gilvie kept the offense moving, finishing the night with a team-high five assists. The Seahawks trailed 51-38 entering the final period but made things interesting down the stretch. Mahiro Oyama drained a three-pointer with under three minutes left to cut the deficit to six, and Schmidt added another triple late to pull Keiser within seven at 62-55. Griffin was active on both ends all night, finishing with seven rebounds and three steals.
The Seahawks' fourth quarter was their best of the night, outscoring the Lions 17-13 in the period.
