No. 2 Keiser women's lacrosse battled back from a seven-goal deficit but ultimately fell to Reinhardt 14-10 on Sunday afternoon at Multi-Purpose Field in West Palm Beach, Fla.
MacKenzie Gibaud opened the scoring with a free-position goal, and the Seahawks matched Reinhardt stride for stride through the first 15 minutes. After the Eagles took a 2-1 lead,
Milena Isturiz answered with a woman-up goal to tie it at 2-2. Walker and Griffin added goals in the final three minutes, with
Tess Geiger capping the quarter with an assist from Gibaud to tie the game at 5-5. In the second quarter, the Seahawks were shut out while surrendering six unanswered goals, turning a tie game into an 11-5 deficit by halftime. Reinhardt had five different scorers in the quarter and took complete control of the game heading into the break.
Facing a large deficit, Keiser showed resilience in the third quarter. Isturiz scored back-to-back goals to cut the deficit to 12-7, while relief goalkeeper
Samantha Crowther settled in with four saves to keep the Seahawks within striking distance. Keiser mounted a furious rally in the final period, outscoring Reinhardt 3-1 over the first 10 minutes to pull within three goals. Gibaud scored her second of the game after intercepting a pass from the Eagles' keeper. Then Geiger netted consecutive free-position goals to make it 13-10 with over four minutes remaining. However, Keiser couldn't complete the comeback. With the Seahawks pressing desperately in the final minute, Lainey Byrne delivered the dagger on a free-position goal with just 10 seconds remaining to seal the 14-10 final.
Keiser's next game will be the home opener against No. 6 Reinhardt on Monday, February 16. The opening draw control from the Multi-Purpose Field in West Palm Beach, Fla. is set for 1:00 p.m.
