Little's Brace Leads No. 1 Women's Soccer to 3-0 Win over No. 10 Tennessee Southern

No. 1 Keiser women's soccer continues to roll this season after defeating No. 10 Tennessee Southern 3-0 in Foley, Alabama. Maria Vilhena got the scoring started in the eighth minute with a well-placed shot. Georgia Little followed late in the first half after collecting a rebound on a missed shot. Little struck again early in the second half following another set piece to give her two goals on the day. The Seahawks defense held strong throughout the contest, earning their third consecutive clean sheet.

The Seahawks return home before taking on No. 5 Cumberlands next Saturday, September 13. Kickoff from Arrigo-Vecellio Field in West Palm Beach, Fla. is set for 11:00 a.m.

How it Happened
  • The first chance of the game came from Lauren Riley whose head went just over the crossbar in the fifth minute
  • In the eighth minute, a quick throw-in from Little found Riley running into the box who proceeded to find Vilhena who slotted home the opening goal of the game
  • UTS nearly broke through in the 17th minute, but Sharaid Palmeros-Solis tried to draw the foul in the box and was waved off by the referee
  • In the 21st minute, the Firehawks attempted to catch Mio Tanaka off guard with a shot from near midfield, however, Tanaka would get back to it and make the save
  • With just over 11 minutes left in the half, Luisa Fontes whipped in a corner kick to Karine Ørud who fired it towards the goal. The keeper would stop it, but it would fall to Little who bashed it home to make it 2-0
  • The Seahawks would go to the break with a two-goal lead and an 8-1 advantage in the shots category
  • Early in the second half, Keiser would once again be set up from the corner with Fontes again. This time the ball would go to Vilhena who played it on to Little who fired home her second goal of the contest to make it 3-0
  • The last true chance of the contest came in the 81st minute when Haley Miller broke away from her defender and fired a shot towards the goal, but it would sail just above the crossbar

Game Notes
  • Keiser improved to 4-0 on the year with the win
  • The Seahawks are now 71-39-12 against ranked opponents all time, 33-20-4 when those matchups take place at a neutral site
  • KU moves to 6-3 all-time against UTS with a 3-0 record at the Orange Beach Classic
  • Vilhena's goal was the second of the season for the forward
  • For Little, she tripled her career total with two goals on the day
  • Riley and Vilhena both collected their third assists of the season
  • Additionally, Fontes, Little, and Ørud all collected assists
  • Tanaka stopped a season-high two shots in the win before making way for Madison Priebe who tallied her first save as a Seahawk
  • Keiser outshot Tennessee Southern 15-5 on the day, 8-3 on goal
