Box Score 4 Shaheed Alam claimed both titles on Sunday afternoon in Boca Raton, Fla. winning doubles with
Heber Santos before defeating Adam Jaupart in singles to close out the day. The men had a 12-5 record in singles action while posting a 6-2 record in doubles play.
The day started with doubles after a brief delay while waiting for the courts to dry. The duo of Alam and Santos controlled the match from the jump, winning the first four games of the match. The pair would go on to clinch the match with a break on a deuce point, claiming the ninth doubles title in program history. The win would mark Alam's second doubles title of his career. Just over an hour later, Alam was back on the court for singles action against Jaupart from SCAD. Jaupart would take a 4-1 lead and be up 40-15 before a surge from Alam would bring it back to a tiebreaker in the first set. Alam would take the tiebreak 7-5 before going up 5-0 in the second and winning again on a deuce point. He becomes the first back-to-back ITA Regional Champion in singles from Keiser.Â
When asked about the tournament, Director of Tennis
Daniel Finn said, "Congrats to Shaheed and Heber. They have both been putting in a lot of work over the past few weeks and executed some high-level tennis this week, taking home the doubles championship. Shaheed played especially well this week. I know he has put in so much work in the offseason to come in and compete day in and day out for those titles. Happy to see all his work paying off."
