To the dismay of some fans in attendance, No. 1 Keiser women's tennis opened their Sun Conference Tournament with a dominant 4-0 win in the semifinal against No. 17 St. Thomas. The Seahawks cruised in doubles with wins on courts one and two. In singles, Keiser took wins on courts one and two early before finishing the match on court four.
- No. 1 V. Apisah continued her dominance on the day with a 6-0, 6-1 result on court one
- Just behind her was No. 23 Cato Tangkau who also won 6-0, 6-1 on court two
- Three members of the Seahawks were closing in on the win, but it was Mercante who finished the match on court four with a 7-5, 7-5 win
- Velykorodna and Vidanovic were both leading 5-3 in the second set when the match concluded
When asked about today's result, Head Coach
Daniel Finn had this to say: "Happy the girls took care of things and got through the match regardless of the situations. St. Thomas tried to make things ugly and drag things out in singles, but the girls played well when they needed to and made sure to take care of the matches in front of them."
On the post-match comments from outside spectators, "Not a lot to say. We've learned to expect things like this when playing certain teams. In the end, they are just fans and shouldn't have any impact on the outcome or overall score, and they didn't today. Wishing them safe travels back to Miami Gardens tonight."
Keiser returns to the courts tomorrow to play No. 5 Southeastern in the Sun Conference Championship. First serve from the Marta B. Torrey Tennis Complex in Brunswick, Ga. is set for 10:00 a.m.
