No. 1 Keiser women's lacrosse rolled in their regular season finale, defeating St. Thomas 20-7 in Miami Gardens, Fla. With the win, the Seahawks complete their third unbeaten regular season, equaling the marks set by the 2021 and 2023 teams.
Jia Schweigert had five goals on the day to lead KU. She was followed closely by
Milena Isturiz and
Hayley Frew who each had five points in the game.
Emily McCall was all over the field with a career-high six groundballs in Saturday's game.
Raelyn Boutwell and
Cassidy Green combined for nine saves in the game.
Keiser will look ahead to the Sun Conference Tournament where they will be the top seed. The Seahawks will get a bye to the semifinal and play on Friday, April 18 at 11:00 a.m.
Keiser 7, St. Thomas 1
- Just over a minute into the game, Milena Isturiz got on the board for the SeahawksÂ
- The Seahawks quickly rattled off three straight goals in the next two minutes as Isturiz, Samantha Esher, and Hayley Frew all found the back of the net to make it 4-0 with 11:05 on the clock
- Following a goal by the Bobcats, back-to-back free position goals for Frew and Emily McCall put Keiser up 6-1 with 5:09 left in the first
- Jordyn Payne closed out the quarter with her first goal of the day to put the Seahawks ahead by six going into the second
Keiser 11, St. Thomas 4
- Jia Schweigert opened the second quarter with her first goal of the day to keep the Keiser run going
- With 12:30 on the clock, Hailey Joselyn stopped the Keiser stretch of goals to make it 8-2
- Schweigert and Payne would each grab their second of the day to bring Keiser's lead up to 10-2 with eight minutes to play in the half
- With under five minutes to play in the quarter, STU would get two goals back from Kylie Lubrant and Jenna Lytch
- However, with just 10 seconds left, Isturiz would sink a free position shot to put Keiser up by seven at the break
Keiser 16, St. Thomas 5
- Schweigert opened the third quarter with her third and fourth goals of the game
- After a goal by St. Thomas, Payne finished her hat trick with 8:12 left in the quarterÂ
- Baylee Walker and Isturiz closed out the quarter with two more goals to go up 16-5 going into the fourth
Keiser 20, St. Thomas 7
- Frew tallied two goals in the first six minutes of the fourth as the clock continued to run down
- Schweigert and Samantha Esher would get the last goals of the game as Keiser rolled
- Keiser closes out the regular season with an undefeated record of 15-0
- KU moves to 5-0 all-time against St. Thomas
- The Seahawks also finished 7-0 in Sun Conference action this season
- It is the third time in program history that Keiser has finished the regular season unbeaten (2021, 2023)
- Schweigert led all players with five goals on the day
- Five different players were credited with an assist in the game
- Both Isturiz and Schweigert collected two caused turnovers in the contest
- Frew was dominant in the circle with five draw controls in the game
- McCall set a new career high in groundballs with six on the day
- The 32 groundballs for the Seahawks marked a new season high
- Raelyn Boutwell stopped five shots in the game followed by Cassidy Green with four
