No. 3 Keiser women's lacrosse continued their hot start on Saturday afternoon in Waleska, Ga., defeating the defending NAIA National Champions, No. 6 Reinhardt, 17-9.
Isabelle Vrensen once again led the scoring effort for the Seahawks with four goals and three assists.
Jia Schweigert also tallied four goals in the contest followed by three players who had two each. The Seahawks were credited with 18 caused turnovers on the day which is the fifth time that they have hit that mark.
Keiser will hang around Waleska, Ga. for their next game which is scheduled for Monday afternoon against No. 7 Missouri Baptist. The opening draw control from Ken White Field is set for 3:00 p.m.
Keiser 6, Reinhardt 1
- The Seahawks went to Isabelle Vrensen early who powered past her defender to make it 1-0 with 14:38 on the clock
- Jordyn Payne found a cutting Milena Isturiz on the next KU possession to make it 2-0
- With just under 14 minutes on the clock, the Seahawks let Jia Schweigert go to work as she bested her defender in the 1-on-1 to make it 3-0
- A few minutes later, MacKenzie Gibaud rolled from behind the net before firing a shot to the upper left corner of the net for her first of the game
- Samantha Esher drew the double team with eight and a half minutes left in the first before finding Schweigert who made it 5-0
- Peyton Tomlinson beat both her defenders at the eight-minute mark to fire her first by the RU keeper
- Reinhardt tallied a pair of goals in the final two minutes to make it 6-2 at the end of the first
Keiser 10, Reinhardt 6
- Vrensen opened the second quarter by drawing a double team and laying it off to Hayley Frew who scored to make it 7-2
- Frew doubled her total on a free-position one minute later as the Seahawks extended their lead
- Reinhardt would get two from Kelsey Sowa within a minute of each other to cut into the KU lead
- Vrensen would take a long route to her next goal at the 7:30 mark to cut the run
- Out of an Eagles' timeout, Lainey Byrne found the back of the net twice for Reinhardt with both assists going to Marissa Davis
- With under four minutes to play, Vrensen's shot would get saved, but Isturiz was there to pick it up and fire home another goal for KU
- The Seahawks would hold on to their four-goal lead going into the break
Keiser 13, Reinhardt 8
- Reinhardt struck first to make it a three-goal game early in the third
- Schweigert countered with her third of the day to put the Seahawks back in front by four, 11-7
- With 9:21 on the clock, Reinhardt tallied their eighth of the day and cut the lead back down to three
- Payne was given a 1-on-1 chance with 3:59 on the clock, weaving around her defender before shooting near-side to make it 12-8
- Vrensen worked a two-man game with Tomlinson who blasted a shot by the Reinhardt goalie for the final goal of the third
Keiser 17, Reinhardt 9
- Schweigert opened the fourth quarter with her fourth goal of the game at the 12:21 mark
- Not to be outdone, Vrensen scored back-to-back goals for her third and fourth of the day to make it 16-8
- With just over five minutes to play, Victoria Francisco got on the board for KU's final tally
- Reinhardt would get the last goal of the game with just under two minutes to play
- Keiser moves to 6-0 on the year with the win
- The Seahawks picked up their second road win of the season and third ranked win
- Schweigert and Vrensen tied for the team lead with four goals
- It was the second four-goal game for both players
- Additionally, both shot 100 percent in the game, scoring on all four of their shots
- Vrensen also led the team with three assists in the game
- Lizzie Belton was a force throughout the day, credited with a team-high four caused turnovers and five groundballs
- Belton also led the Seahawks with five draw controls
- Cassidy Green and Raelyn Boutwell once again split time in goal, totaling seven saves on the day
- Keiser outshot Reinhardt 35-26 on the day
