Chizmar Wins 100th Game as No. 3 Women's Lacrosse Tops Life

Game Information
Score: No. 3 Keiser Seahawks 15, No. 10 Life Running Eagles 9
Records: No. 3 Keiser (11-0, 3-0 SUN), Life (5-5, 1-2 SUN)
Location: Multi-Purpose Field - West Palm Beach, Fla. 

No. 3 Keiser women's lacrosse held off No. 10 Life at home on Saturday afternoon, winning 15-9. With the win, Head Coach Lauren Chizmar achieved her 100th win as the head coach of the Seahawks. MacKenzie Gibaud led all players with five goals in the game. For the first time all season, Isabelle Vrensen did not record a goal in a game. Instead, she dished out a team-high three assists. The Seahawks dominated the center circle, taking in 19 of the 28 draw controls.

Keiser's next big test will be on the road when they take on the No. 1 SCAD Savannah Bees. The opening draw control from the SCAD Athletics Complex in Hardeeville, S.C. is set for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 30.

First Quarter
Keiser 6, Life 1
  • Keiser grabbed their first goal 13 seconds into the game as Hayley Frew found Jordyn Payne who sank her shot to make it 1-0
  • Four minutes later, Milena Isturiz hit Jia Schweigert who scored her first of the contest
  • The scoring run would continue with Samantha Esher finding MacKenzie Gibaud to make it 3-0 at the 8:32 mark
  • On the ensuing possession, Frew would hit the post, but the ball would make its way to McCall who made it 4-0
  • Esher made it 5-0 with 5:51 on the clock, forcing a timeout by the Running Eagles
  • Esher made the Running Eagles pay after a turnover, finding Gibaud for another goal to make it 6-0
  • Life would get on the board with 90 seconds left in the quarter as Kathryn Moody found the back of the net

Second Quarter
Keiser 11, Life 5
  • Four minutes into the second, Gibaud tallied her third of the contest to give Keiser the 7-1 lead
  • Back-to-back goals by the Running Eagles in the next three minutes brought the score to 7-3 with 9:01 on the clock
  • Life would score twice more with under five minutes to play as they cut the lead down to just two
  • Gibaud would turn the momentum back towards the Seahawks with Frew tallying an assist to push the Seahawks lead up to three
  • The final minute of the half would erase all the momentum started by Life as Schweigert, Esher, and Isturiz all scored to give the Seahawks an 11-5 advantage at the break


Third Quarter
Keiser 13, Life 9
  • The Running Eagles would score first in the third quarter, but Gibaud would have an answer with her fifth goal of the contest
  • Kathryn Moody tallied her third goal of the game for Life with 8:13 on the clock as they refused to quit
  • Alyssa Curto and Nicole Ortiz would tack on two more to bring the KU lead down to three with 2:24 left in the quarter
  • With the Seahawks down a woman, Frew would get the last goal of the quarter at the 1:31 mark to put Keiser up 13-9 going into the final 15 minutes

Fourth Quarter
Keiser 15, Life 9
  • Keiser would maintain the possession through the early part of the fourth, but a pair of saves would keep the Seahawks off the board in the period
  • Finally, with 8:40 on the clock, Peyton Tomlinson would convert the free position attempt and put Keiser up by five
  • Following a big save by Cassidy Green on a free position attempt, Victoria Francisco found Frew for the games' final goal


Game Notes
  • Keiser improved to 11-0 on the year with the win
  • The Seahawks are now 3-0 in Sun Conference action this season
  • Head Coach Lauren Chizmar is now 100-39 in her career
  • Gibaud led all players with five goals in the game
  • Frew, Esher, and Schweigert all finished the game with two goals
  • Vrensen traded her scoring stick for a passing stick, tallying three assists in the game
  • Frew and Esher were just behind her with two assists each
  • The Seahawks totaled 13 assists on their 15 goals scored
  • In the circle, Frew led the game with eight on the day
  • Keiser had 19 draw controls to Life's nine
  • Lizzie Belton continues to be a menace on defense with three more caused turnovers to her name, tying with Frew and Tomlinson
  • Frew was busy in the midfield, picking up four groundballs which tied with Gibaud for the team lead
  • Green got the start and made seven saves while allowing just six goals
