The Keiser flag football team suffered its first loss of the season, dropping a 20-19 decision to the Thomas Night Hawks on Wednesday. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Seahawks over the Night Hawks.

Keiser was led by Haylie Young completed 35-of-48 passes for 222 yards and three touchdowns. Her top target was Chloe Griffin, who caught 11 passes for 82 yards. Janasia Wilson also collected eight catches for 47 yards. Sa'mya Bryant led all Keiser defenders with eight flag pulls. The Seahawks linebacker also registered an interception in the contest. 
 

First Quarter

Keiser 0, Thomas (Ga.) 0
  • Defense ruled during the first quarter as both team had two drives in the first 12 minutes but neither could get on the scoreboard
  • The Night Hawks stopped Keiser on fourth-and-two from the TU 32-yard line as Thomas took over on downs with 7:46 on the game clock
  • The Seahawk defense responded with a interception by Ashlea Klam (at the KU 25-yard line), who with the assistance of Kennedy Foster returned the ball to the 40 yard line to start Keiser's next possession (5:10)
  • Unable to capitalize on the good field position, Keiser turned the ball over on downs again at the Thomas 35-yard line
  • Again the Seahawk defense responded, as Sa'mya Bryant returned the team's second interception of the quarter seven yards to the 40-yard line as the quarter ended

Second Quarter

Keiser 13, Thomas (Ga.) 7
  • Keiser broke the scoreless tie when Haylie Young found Brenna Ramirez for the four-yard score
  • With the successful extra-point attempt, Keiser led, 7-0, with 6:13 left in the half
  • The Night Hawks answered with a three-yard strike from Keelin Coleman to Nakerra Brown (2:17)
  • Not to be outdone, the Seahawks regained the lead before the end of the half when Young connected with Sophia Caprio for two-yards and the score (27 seconds), giving Keiser a 13-7 lead at the half

Third Quarter

Keiser 20, Thomas (Ga.) 7
  • The third was another defensive quarter with just one score in the frame
  • Keiser extended its lead with 47 second on the game clock as Young completed her third touchdown pass of the game 
  • Young found Klam for nine yards, giving the Seahawks a 13-point advantage

Fourth Quarter
Thomas (Ga.) 20, Keiser 19
  • TU's Holly Neher completed a 32-yard touchdown pass to Maddie Hougland to pull the Night Hawks to within six, 19-13, with 8:55 left in the game
  • The Seahawk offense looked to move the ball down the field while eating up some game clock
  • Keiser succeed in eating up nearly four minutes but a costly penalty and an intercepted pass by Gisele Jones gave Thomas the ball back at their own 35 with 4:26 left in the game
  • Seven plays later, Coleman hit Jones for an 11-yard touchdown pass, tying the game at 19-19
  • A successful extra-point attempt gave the Night Hawks a 20-19 lead with 1:03 remaining
  • Keiser's last attempt to win the game fell short as the Seahawks suffered the one-point loss

The Seahawks will return home to host the Point Night Hawks on Thursday, March 27. Game time from the KU Multi-Purpose Field is set for 1:00 PM.
