Down 4-3 at the half, No. 7 Keiser women's lacrosse scored 11 second half goals en route to a dominant 14-7 win over No. 10 Ave Maria on the road. Four goals from
Jordyn Payne led the way for the Seahawks with three coming in the second half alone.
Kate Griffin and
Milena Isturiz each chipped in with a pair of goals to help the cause. Isturiz also dominated the midfield with a team-high six groundballs and tied for the lead with two caused turnovers.
Keiser will be back at home on Wednesday, February 19 with a game against Webber International. The opening draw control from the Multi-Purpose Field in West Palm Beach, Fla. is set for 6:00 p.m.
Keiser 2, Ave Maria 1
- Ave Maria scored the first goal of the game with 4:09 left in the first as Hannah Shaffrey found the back of the net
- Jordyn Payne would even the game with her first goal off a pass from Samantha Esher with 2:30 to play
- With just over 90 seconds left in the first, MacKenzie Gibaud converted her free position chance to give the Seahawks the lead going into the second
Ave Maria 4, Keiser 3
- The Gyrenes would take advantage of a pair of woman-up opportunities in the second, grabbing the 3-2 lead with 7:42 to play
- With just over three minutes left in the half, AMU went up by two and took a timeout with 3:07 showing
- Following a foul by the Gyrenes, Isabelle Vrensen weaved through the Gyrene defense and scored to cut into the lead
- Ave would have the final chance of the half, but a stick check from Milena Isturiz displaced the ball with the horn sounding for halftime
Keiser 8, Ave Maria 5
- The second half would pose a complete shift in the game beginning, with a woman-down goal by Hayley Frew
- Kate Griffin would give Keiser the lead with 7:11 on the clock, but the Gyrenes would tie it at the 4:33 mark
- The ensuing draw control would go to the Seahawks, and Gibaud would feed Payne who put KU back ahead 6-5
- Payne would tally another a minute later before Griffin gave Keiser an 8-5 lead going into the final quarter
Keiser 14, Ave Maria 7
- The Seahawks continued the momentum into the fourth with three goals in the first three minutes of the fourth to take an 11-5 lead
- Emily McCall and Isturiz capped the 8-0 run for the Seahawks with two more in the fourth as the Seahawks took complete control in the final minutes
- Ave Maria would get a pair of goals back in the last two minutes, but just before time expired, Isturiz found Esher for a last-second goal to seal the game
- The start of the game was delayed an hour and 15 minutes due to an officials issueÂ
- Keiser improves to 2-0 on the year with the win
- The Seahawks are now 8-1 in road games to begin the season
- KU moves to 11-3 all-time against Ave Maria
- Keiser improves to 33-27 in ranked matchups and 10-9 on the road in ranked games
