No. 3 Keiser women's soccer are headed to the NAIA National Championship Semifinal after defeating No. 4 Missouri Valley 1-0 at the Orange Beach Sportsplex in Orange Beach, Ala. on Friday afternoon. Ruby Vernon's goal early in the second half proved to be the difference as the Seahawks earned their second straight 1-0 win. The game was originally scheduled for the previous day in Pensacola but was rescheduled due to poor field conditions.

The match was a battle played in 52-degree temperatures with rain falling throughout the game. Both teams generated chances in the first half, with Missouri Valley holding a slight 5-4 edge in shots going into the break. Luisa Fontes had the Seahawks' best chance early, forcing a save in the second minute. Blanca Bächi tested the keeper again in the 39th minute but was denied by a diving save. Missouri Valley had their own chances against Mio Tanaka with shots on goal, but the Keiser goalkeeper made the necessary saves to keep the match scoreless at halftime.

The breakthrough came just five minutes into the second half when Vernon found the back of the net. Lara Noe found Lauren Riley on the break, who fed Vernon, who was left 1-on-1 with the keeper. Vernon slotted the shot into the lower left corner of the net to put the Seahawks in front. Missouri Valley pressed hard for an equalizer in the final 30 minutes, forcing two saves from Tanaka. The Vikings earned two late corner kicks as they pushed numbers forward, but Keiser's defense held firm. Tanaka made a crucial save in the final seconds to preserve the shutout and send the Seahawks to the semifinals.

The Seahawks now advance to the NAIA National Tournament Semifinal to face No. 7 Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) with a kickoff set for 6:00 PM CT. The location for the semifinal is yet to be determined.
