WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Avrie Schmidt and Jasmyn Hale led a balanced offensive attack as Keiser women's basketball rolled to an 82-60 victory over Mobile on Wednesday afternoon to close out the Thanksgiving Classic.
Schmidt poured in a game-high 22 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including a perfect 10-for-10 performance from the free-throw line, while adding three steals. Hale recorded a dominant double-double with 14 points, a game-high 17 rebounds, and eight assists to pace the Seahawks.
Emelia O'Gilvie was the third Seahawk in double figures with 14 points on efficient 6-of-9 shooting, including 2-of-2 from three-point range. Caidyn Cannon added eight points and seven rebounds despite foul trouble, while Carolina de Domingo chipped in seven points and three blocks. The Seahawks seized control early, racing out to a 23-13 lead after the first quarter behind hot shooting (55.6%) and eight assists on 10 field goals. Keiser extended the advantage to 40-22 at halftime as the defense clamped down, holding Mobile to just nine second-quarter points on 23.1 percent shooting.
The lead ballooned to as many as 25 points late in the fourth quarter at 08:33, as Keiser's depth and defensive pressure wore down the visitors. The Seahawks shot 48.2 percent from the field for the game and dominated at the free-throw line, converting 24 of 32 attempts (75.0%).
Mobile (3-8) received a valiant effort from Taylor Lee, who matched Schmidt with 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including five offensive rebounds. Lamaria Jones added 16 points before fouling out, while Emilee Duet dished out a team-high five assists before also fouling out. The Rams struggled with turnovers (22) and foul trouble throughout, with three players disqualifying on fouls. Mobile shot just 35.7 percent from the field and made only 3-of-13 from three-point range (23.1%).
Keiser's defense was the story, forcing 22 turnovers and converting them into 30 points while limiting Mobile to just 60 points on 56 shot attempts. The Seahawks also controlled the paint with a 44-30 rebounding advantage, led by Hale's 17 boards, and recorded 13 steals compared to Mobile's eight.
The balanced scoring attack featured 21 assists on 27 field goals, showcasing the Seahawks' unselfish ball movement. Seven different players contributed to the scoring column for Keiser, with the bench providing 26 key points.
