No. 3 Keiser women's soccer cruised to a 3-0 shutout victory over No. 24 Georgia Gwinnett at Multi-Purpose Field on Saturday afternoon, improving their record to 16-3-1. The Seahawks dominated from start to finish, outshooting the Grizzlies 14-4 and controlling possession throughout the match.
Keiser opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Luisa Fontes found the back of the net from range. A beautiful one-two pass with Blanca Bächi set up the shot to put Keiser in front. The Seahawks doubled their advantage just before halftime as Ruby Vernon converted a well-worked team goal in the 37th minute. Haley Miller played the first ball through to Lauren Riley who whipped a ball across the box to Vernon who placed her shot into the right side of the net to give Keiser a 2-0 lead at the break. The Seahawks put the game out of reach early in the second half when Riley scored her team-leading 17th goal of the season in the 61st minute. Miller was once again responsible for the setup with a well-placed pass to the right side of the box. Goalkeeper Mio Tanaka secured the shutout with three saves, improving her record to 12-2-1 on the season.
The Seahawks advance to the NAIA National Tournament Final Site where they will take on No. 8 Indiana Wesleyan in the NAIA Round of 16 in Pensacola, Fla on Tuesday, December 2.
