Keiser men's basketball opened Sun Conference play in winning fashion, defeating St. Thomas 73-67 on Friday afternoon at the Student Life Center in West Palm Beach. The Seahawks dominated the paint and showcased their depth, never trailing in the second half while cruising to their third consecutive victory.
After weathering an early back-and-forth battle that featured three ties, Keiser seized control with a decisive 11-4 run late in the first half. Camerin James and Santiago Henriquez attacked the rim relentlessly, while Loghan Downie knocked down a clutch three-pointer to give the Seahawks a 36-31 halftime cushion. Despite St. Thomas's Adrian Cruz hitting four first-half threes, Keiser's shooting percentage (53.1 percent) and balanced attack proved too much for the visitors.
The Seahawks took command in the second half, building their lead to nine points and asserting their will on both ends of the floor. Jonathan Paul came up huge off the bench with 16 points on an efficient 6-of-7 shooting, scoring eight of his points in the final four minutes. Jackson Slater added 13 points, seven rebounds, and three assists in 37 minutes of floor time. James paced the Seahawks with 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting while pulling down seven boards.
Cameron Baldwin provided elite rim protection with four blocks and capped his stellar performance with a thunderous fast-break dunk with nine seconds remaining, sending the home crowd into a frenzy and sealing the victory at 73-65.
Keiser's offensive efficiency was the story of the night. The Seahawks shot an impressive 50.0 percent from the field while limiting St. Thomas to just 39.1 percent. The paint belonged to Keiser, as the Seahawks consistently found high-percentage looks inside and converted them with authority.
