It was a dominant outing for No. 1 Keiser women's soccer who defeated the Ave Maria Gyrenes 8-1 on Wednesday afternoon at home. Early in the game,
Blanca Bächi delivered the opener, before penalty kicks for each side and a goal from
Nynka Rucker made it 3-1 at the half.
Lauren Riley opened the second half with three goals in 20 minutes to put the Seahawks up 6-1 before goals by
Lara Noe and
Karine Ørud each scored to wrap up the contest.
Keiser will have a week off before they play Southeastern at home on Wednesday, October 15. Kickoff from Arrigo-Vecellio Field in West Palm Beach, Fla. is set for 11:00 a.m.
- Keiser's first goal came after 15 minutes when Emilia Nilsson slipped the ball through to Bächi who took a shot from just outside the box that beat the keeper
- In the 41st minute, Ida Palm played a through ball to Riley in the box who crossed the ball Rucker who was able to finish with her right foot to make it 3-1
- Riley's first goal of the day came off a corner by Steingerður Snorradóttir who found Riley at the back post for the easy tap in
- Her second goal came off a cross from Rucker who sprinted past defenders down the right wing before finding Riley in the box who blasted it through the outstretched hand of the keeper
- Riley's hat trick came off a bouncing through ball from Maria Vilhena that Riley struck over the keeper
- Ørud had the initial cross into a crowded box that led to Noe's goal, Noe pouncing on the free ball and just doing enough to put it on target
- Ørud would strike again in the final minute of action, sending a corner kick directly on target and out of reach of the keeper to finish the scoring for the day
- Keiser improves their overall record to 11-1-0
- The Seahawks are now 3-0 in Sun Conference play
- KU is now 23-0-1 against Ave Maria all-time and is now 15-0 at home
- For Riley, it was her first hat trick of the season and fourth of her career
- She now has nine goals on the year and moves into the team lead for the Seahawks
