The Keiser Athletic Department announced this week's Seahawks Athletes of the Week on Monday. This week's winners, junior midfielder
Gabi Villafane and junior midfielder
Maria Vilhena were recognized for their performances during the week of September 22.
Gabi Villafane, Third Year, MF, Barinas, Venezuela
- Named this week's Sun Conference Offensive Player of the Week
- The weekly award was the first of the season for Villafane and the first of his career
- Tallied three assists in a home victory against Southeastern
- Villafane's assist total versus the Fire was a single-game career high for the native of Venezuela
- Villafane now ranks second on the team in total points (5)
- His five assists leads the conference and ranks tied for 13th in the nation
Maria Vilhena, Third Year, F, Sao Bras de Alportel, Portugal
- Vilhena was named this week's Sun Conference Offensive Player of the Week
- The award was the first weekly award of the season for Vilhena and the first of her career
- Her first goal came in the seventh minute when she got behind the Fire defense and beat the keeper in a one-on-one
- In the second half, she broke the tie again to give KU the 3-2 lead late in the contest
- Now tied for the team lead in goals with five
Both Villafane and Vilhena will now be in the running for the Keiser Athlete of the Month (September) award in October.
