The Keiser Men's Soccer team battled through a hard-fought contest against the No. 6 Bethel (Ind.) Pilots in Atlanta, Ga. this evening, and the Seahawks ended the game on a 2-2 draw. The Seahawks trailed by two goals at one point, but Keiser put two unanswered goals on the board to end the game with a tie.
Jakob Schnitzler provided the game-tying goal, and assisted on the first Keiser goal of the season.
- Keiser fought through a slow start, as the Seahawks fended off a flurry of early shots from the Pilots, as well as a handful of fouls.
- Bethel got on the board first with a goal 11:30 into the match.
- The rest of the first half came and went with no more goals scored, as each team was called for yellow cards, and had corner kick opportunities turned away.
- The second half saw a shot from Ichiya Yaegashi nearly found the net early in the second half, but the shot was saved by Pilots goalie Mathis Neuhaus.
- After a Keiser corner kick opportunity was denied, Bethel took a two-goal lead with an assisted shot eight minutes into the half.
- Despite the deficit, the Seahawks kept their focus and put the first goal of the season into the net off the foot of Aldair Chavez, with an assist by Jakob Schnitzler.
- Nine minutes later, the Seahawks Gabi Villafane took a corner kick and linked up with Schnitzler for a spectacular goal that tied the match.
- The Pilots were able to fire off four shots, but goalkeeper Santiago Nebot and the Keiser defense were able to hold firm for the rest of regulation.
- The Seahawks nearly stole the game on a shot from Gabi Villafane with seven seconds left in the match, but the attempt sailed high and the game came to an end, 2-2.
- Keiser now moves to 11-19-5 against the NAIA top ten.
- The Seahawks are now 0-0-1 against Bethel.
- Timo Boomkens, Santiago Nebot, and Jakob Schnitzler all played the full 90 minutes.
- Nebot was credited with three saves.
- Bethel was called for six fouls, and Keiser was called for five.
- KU was outshot 8-18.
- The Seahawks took five corner kicks.
- Bailey Newton, Gabi Villafane, and Ichiya Yaegashi were all given credit for assists.
