The Keiser flag football team scored 40-plus points for the third straight game in Atlanta, advancing to the NAIA Semifinals with a 44-6 win over St. Thomas on Thursday.
The Seahawks used seven total touchdowns (six on offense, one on defense) to end the Bobcats season and improve to 17-1 on the year. The 17 wins this season by the Seahawks are the most in program history.
Quarterback
Jazmin Rhoden completed 19-of-23 passes for 201 yards and four touchdowns. Junior
Haylie Young also tossed two TD passes, completing 6-of-7 for 65 yards. Freshman
Ashlea Klam grabbed six passes for 67 yards and two touchdowns.
Adriana Rodriguez also collected two touchdowns, hauling in three catches for 24 yards. Kenndey Foster led the team with seven catches for 67 yards and a touchdown. The native of Palm Beach Gardens also picked off a pass (her second of the tournament).
Defensively, the Seahawks held the opposition to six points or less for the 13th time this season. The defense was led by Foster and Sam'ya Bryant, who each recorded seven flag pulls.
With the win, the Seahawks improved to 11-2 all-time versus the Bobcats, including a 3-0 mark all-time in Atlanta.
Keiser 6, St. Thomas 0
- The Seahawks took the opening drive 66 yards in nine plays to score the first points of the game.
- Jazmin Rhoden completed a six-yard pass to Adriana Rodriguez with 6:45 left in the first for the 6-0 lead (XP no good).
- The Bobcats looked to respond, but the Seahawks forced a turnover-on-downs to regain possession of the ball from their own 24-yard line (1:10).
Keiser 26, St. Thomas 0
- The Seahawks opened the quarter with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Rhoden to Brianna Hernanadez-Silva.
- With a successful 2-point conversion, Keiser led 14-0 with 11:53 left in the half.
- On the ensuing STU drive, Kennedy Foster picked off a Holly Neher pass, returning it 22 yards before pitching to Emma Wagenman, who took it five yards for the score.
- Keiser led 20-0 with 11:03 on the game clock.
- The Seahawks forced another STU turnover-on-downs and got the ball from their own eight with 4:20 left in the half.
- Keiser used an 11-play, 72-yard drive capped off with a 16-yard touchdown pass from Rhoden to Ashlea Klam with 14 seconds on the game clock.
- Following the missed extra-point try, the Seahawks led 26-0 heading into halftime.
Keiser 38, St. Thomas 0
- The Bobcats began the second half with the ball, driving to their own 33-yard line before Sophia Caprio forced a turnover, taking the ball down to the STU 15-yard line.
- On the first play of Keiser's drive, Rhoden completed a pass to a wide-open Foster down the middle for the 15-yard score.
- The Seahawks led, 32-0, with 9:06 on the game clock.
- Another STU turnover-on-downs gave the ball back to the Seahawks from the STU 38-yard line.
- Four plays later, Keiser scored again as Haylie Young completed a nine-yard pass to Foster, who lateraled to Rodriguez for the remaining five yards and the touchdown.
- The score gave Keiser a 38-0 with 3:11 left in the third.
Keiser 44, St. Thomas 6
- The Seahawks scored their final points of the game with an 18-yard pass from Young to Klam with 9:21 left in the contest (44-0).
- St. Thomas prevented the shutout, scoring with 3:33 left in the game on a one-yard run.
The Seahawks will face the Thomas Night Hawks in the NAIA Semifinals on Friday, May 10. Game time from Mercedes-Benz Stadium is set for 11:00 a.m.
