Keiser Softball Downs No. 18 Coastal Georgia In Series Clinching Win

Keiser softball staked its claim to the top of Sun Conference standings today with a series-clinching win over No. 18 Coastal Georgia. The Seahawks erased a 2-0 deficit and plated five unanswered runs to take down the Mariners, and win their third game of the season versus a nationally ranked opponent. This is Keiser's first ever series win versus CCGA.

  • Brunella Beteta Vilchez pitched the final three innings and collected her third save of the season. (31 pitches)

The Seahawks shook off an early deficit and powered their way to a huge Sun Conference series victory.

  • After two innings without much action, the Mariners got the game's first run home with a bases loaded hit-by-pitch. 
  • Coastal's final run of the game was scored with a sacrifice fly.

  • The Seahawks broke through in the fourth, and got things started with a Lizzy Small walk, and a single from Genesis Iglesias.
  • After Tes DeBono walked to load the bases, Lacee Travens hit an RBI single to score pinch runner Tessa DiPietra.
  • In the next at-bat, Molly Reid electrified the crowd with a 2-RBI single to right center that scored Iglesias and Abby Arend and gave Keiser the lead. 
  • Following a CCGA pitching change, the Seahawks added two more runs with a 2-RBI double from Bridget Dunham that allowed Reid and Travens to score.

  • Coastal Georgia had its final chance to score, but Beteta-Vilchez and the Seahawk defense stood their ground and retired the Mariners in order. 
 

Up Next
The Seahawks travel to Miami Gardens, Fla. next weekend for a series against St. Thomas. First pitch of game one is set for 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
