No. 2 Keiser women's tennis picked up their second top-5 win in two days, taking down No. 5 Xavier University of Louisiana on Monday by a score of 4-0. KU took the doubles point by defeating ranked opponents on courts one and two. The match was clinched from back to front in singles with courts six, five, and four going to Keiser in that order.
- Court one took the first match of the day as Violet Apisah and Patricia Apisah defeated No. 7 Mbali Langa and McKenna Wheatley 6-4.
- Katie Visnevscaia and Vanja Vidanovic needed a tiebreaker but showed little struggle with a 7-6(1) win over No. 33 Amira Bergaoui and Valentina Largacha.
- Court three was tied at 5-5 when the doubles point was finished.
- No. 29 Isabella Perez Flores was tied 4-4 in the first set before taking the next eight games to win 6-4, 6-0.
- Vidanovic followed shortly after with a 6-1, 6-2 win over No. 64 Largacha.
- P. Apisah clinched the match on court four over No. 67 Wheatley, 6-2, 6-3.
- The Seahawks were leading in the second set on two of the remaining courts.
When asked about today's result, Head Coach
Daniel Finn had this to say: "I thought the girls did a great job today controlling the tempo and momentum of the match. The doubles point was crucial today. As always, getting the doubles point and playing well early on changes the momentum, and our girls were able to come out and play solid singles."
On earning two top-5 wins in the last three days, "They've done a great job in the past couple of days and embraced the challenge of playing two top-5 teams back to back. However, our schedule has been difficult from day one. I would challenge that nobody else in the country has played anything remotely as tough of a schedule as we have, and the girls are definitely battle-tested at the moment and proved it today against a very solid Xavier team."
On facing a team that is often competing on the final days at nationals, "Again, it's an opportunity that we embrace. The girls love to compete and were excited to get an opportunity to compete against Xavier during the regular season. I have a lot of respect for Coach (Alan) Green and his program, and I know he always has his teams ready to compete.
Keiser will be back in action tomorrow, March 26, with a makeup match against Warner. First serve from Patch Reef Park in Boca Raton, Fla. is set for 1:30 p.m.
