Softball Wins a Pair of Extra-Inning Thrillers at Ave Maria

Keiser Softball swept the day in back-to-back thrillers against Ave Maria in the second series of SUN Conference play. The Seahawks trailed by one for the majority of the first game, but the Seahawks found their batting groove and outlasted the Gyrenes by scoring four runs in the top of 8th inning to secure the win. Game two would have a vice-versa look to it, the Seahawks led most of the way but the Gyrenes went on to score one run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game, senior Molly Reid produced a sac-fly for Tessa DiPietra to score securing the win.

  • Lizzy Small got the start, and the complete game win. (120 pitches)

Keiser trailed for much of the game, but the Seahawks tied the game in the seventh inning, and triumphed in the eighth inning.

  • The Gyrenes got their first run of the day across with a sac-bunt.

  • Staring down defeat, the Seahawks were down to their final chance to tie the game.
  • Keiser got a clutch, two out RBI single from Bridget Dunham to score Tessa DiPietra and send the game to extra innings.

  • In a wild sequence, Keiser scored four runs on an AMU error following a single by Tessa DiPietra

  • Brunella Beteta Vilchez got the start of game two for the Seahawks, securing the win and notching her ninth win of the season

  • Tes DeBono continued her hot bat with two RBIs on two hits.
  • Bridget Dunham recorded two RBIs, on two hits and scoring one run.
  • Molly Reid had one RBI on one hit and scored one run.
How it Happened
The Seahawks trailed 3-0 up until the third inning, scoring three runs and later taking the lead over the Gyrenes in the sixth. Ave Maria tied the game in the bottom of the seventh sending the Keiser to extras for the second time today. Molly Reid would take care of business leading the Seahawks to the victory.

  • The Gyrenes got on the board first with an a two out 3-RBI double from Maya Gonzalez.

  • The Seahawks got their first run of the game off a single from Lizzy Small
  • Genesis Iglesias went on to follow with a single to right field and advanced to second on the throw.
  • Tes DeBono cashed in the two Seahawks to tie the game at three a piece.

  • Ryanne Saultere doubled to right center to start the inning for the Gyrenes.
  • Hailee Howe popped up to deep shortstop to record the RBI for Ave Maria to take the lead.

  • Brunella Beteta Vilchez reached on a fielder's choice following Tessa DiPierta being thrown out at second.
  • Molly Reid singled to centerfield to put two Seahawks on the base path.
  • Lacee Travens, who pinch hit for Alex Perez advanced the runners on a single to left field to load the bases.
  • Seahawks second baseman Bridget Dunham hit a 2-RBI single to left field scoring Beteta Vilchez and Reid.

  • Cecilia Garrett single on a bunt and later stole second base.
  • The Gyerenes tied the game with a single to center field from Ashley Lykins,

  • In tie-breaker fashion, Tessa DiPietra was placed on second base.
  • Beteta Vilchez had a sac bunt to advance DiPierta to third for perfect placement to win it all.
  • Reid flew out to right field scoring DiPierta on the RBI sac fly.

The Seahawks will close out the this weekend's series with game three on Sunday, March 24. First pitch at Ave Maria is set for noon.
