Keiser men's basketball fell in the First Round of the NAIA National Championship on Friday night to No. 17 Oregon Tech in overtime, 102-94. The Seahawks were led by Calvin Sirmans who scored 25 points to go along with 10 assists for his fifth double-double of the year. Vincent Miszkiewicz also tallied a double-double in the contest, scoring 18 points and adding 18 rebounds. Brandon Farmer tallied 17 points off the bench along with six rebounds, while Tyler Poindexter and Justin Nichelson helped out with 14 points and 11 points, respectively.

After Nichelson cut the Owls' lead to three in overtime, Blake Jensen finished a dunk before a Keegan Shivers three-pointer put Oregon Tech's lead out of reach.
 
 
How it Happened


First Half
Keiser 41, Oregon Tech 35
  • Keiser controlled the opening tip, which resulted in a Calvin Sirmans three to open the scoring.
  • Sirmans would score 11 of the first 19 points for the Seahawks as KU jumped out to a 19-3 lead in the first six minutes.
  • The Owls would get going before Tyler Poindexter hit from deep, followed by a Miszkiewicz layup to push the Keiser lead to 24-7 with 9:42 left in the first.
  • Oregon Tech caught fire quickly over the next 90 seconds, going on an 11-3 run to cut into the lead.
  • The next three minutes would be a stalemate before Sirmans converted an and-1 opportunity to put Keiser up by 10 with 4:14 on the clock.
  • The Owls closed out the half on an 11-5 run before Miszkiewicz hit a pair of free throws to give KU a 41-35 advantage at the break.

Second Half
Keiser 85, Oregon Tech 85
  • Oregon Tech kicked off the second half with a 9-3 run to tie the game at 44-44 four minutes into the second.
  • Poindexter and Sirmans combined for the next six points in less than 60 seconds before back-to-back threes from the Owls tied the game at 50-50 with 14:18 still to play.
  • Following a Miszkiewicz layup, Oregon Tech took their first lead of the night on a three-pointer, extending their lead to 60-54 with 12:00 minutes on the clock.
  • Keiser would have an answer as Brandon Farmer hit from range to help bring the score back to even, 61-61.
  • The back-and-forth action continued with Oregon Tech taking a slight advantage from the free throw line to go ahead 71-69 with 8:04 to play.
  • Keiser took the slight advantage of the next two minutes as Miszkiewicz hit a jumper for his 16th point of the night to put Keiser up 77-75 with 5:50 left in the game.
  • Poindexter would convert all of his free throws after being fouled from three-point range before Nichelson converted the and-1 to put Keiser up 83-79.
  • The Owls would tie the game with 38 seconds left in regulation and get the final possession, but a turnover with two seconds left would send the game into overtime.

Overtime
Oregon Tech 102, Keiser 94
  • The Owls started the overtime period on a 6-1 run over the first minute to control the momentum.
  • Following a pair of free throws from Nichelson, the Owls responded with a dunk and a three to take a 96-88 lead with 2:14 left.
  • Farmer connected on a putback chance to cut the lead to six before the Owls did the same on the other end to maintain the eight-point lead.
  • Oregon Tech would control the rest of the way, going on to win 102-94.

  • Keiser ends the season with an 18-11 overall record.
  • The loss is the first ranked loss for KU this season, ending 3-1 on the year.
  • The Seahawks are now an even 13-13 all-time in the NAIA postseason and 6-7 in the NAIA First Round.
