Keiser Softball began their 2024 season today by splitting a doubleheader versus No. 20 Freed-Hardeman. The Seahawks defeated the Lions 6-3 in the first game, and fell 4-2 in the second game.
Keiser Seahawks 6, No. 20 Freed-Hardeman 3
Pitchers of Record: W: Vilchez (1-0) L: Winters (0-1)
	- Brunella Beteta-Vilchez was sensational in her KU debut, allowing no earned runs over seven innings. (106 pitches)
 
	- The Seahawks collected nine hits.
 
	- Ted DeBono went 3-3.
 
	- Molly Reid went 2-3 with 2 RBI.
 

Keiser shook off some early cobwebs and used a massive fifth inning take the game. ​​​​​​

 
Keiser 0, Freed-Hardeman 1
	- The Lions hit an RBI single to take an early lead, set up by two Keiser errors.
 
Keiser 0, Freed-Hardeman 2
	- FHU scored another run on a on sac-fly to right field.
 
Keiser 6, Freed-Hardeman 2
	- After leaving a runner stranded in the fourth, the Seahawks got the bases loaded with three singles that prompted a FHU pitching change.
 
	- The first KU run of the season was scored on a base-loaded walk from Lizzy Small.
 
	- Genesis Iglesias did the same in the following at bat to tie the game.
 
	- Tes DeBono gave Keiser the lead on an RBI single.
 
	- Molly Reid made a decisive play, and drove two runners in with a double to left center.
 
Keiser 6, Freed-Hardeman 3
	- In the top of the seventh, Freed-Hardeman scored a run with another sac-fly.
 
	- The scoring halted there though, as the Keiser defense worked to get the next runner out and give KU the win.
 
Keiser 2, No. 20 Freed-Hardeman 4
Pitchers of Record: W: Brown (1-0), L; Small (0-1)
	- Lizzy Small went the distance, striking out three batters. (134 pitches)
 
	- The Seahawks were unable to rally after the Lions took the lead midway through the game.
 
Keiser 0, Freed-Hardeman 2
	- The Lions plated two runs in the fourth inning with an RBI single and RBI groundout.
 
Keiser 1, Freed-Hardeman 2
	- Keiser got a runner home with a Lizzy Small double to right center.
 
Keiser 1, Freed-Hardeman 4
	- The Lions got two more runners in on a Keiser fielding error, and an RBI single.
 
Keiser 2, Freed-Hardeman 4
	- Macy Schaaf cut the FHU lead in half with an RBI single.
 
Keiser 2, Freed-Hardeman 4
	- KU had their chance to tie the game, but the tying run was ultimately stranded on base.
 

The Seahawks will host a doubleheader versus New College of Florida this Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
