Keiser Softball Splits Doubleheader Versus No. 20 Freed-Hardeman

Keiser Softball began their 2024 season today by splitting a doubleheader versus No. 20 Freed-Hardeman. The Seahawks defeated the Lions 6-3 in the first game, and fell 4-2 in the second game.

  • Brunella Beteta-Vilchez was sensational in her KU debut, allowing no earned runs over seven innings. (106 pitches)

  • The Seahawks collected nine hits.
  • Ted DeBono went 3-3.
  • Molly Reid went 2-3 with 2 RBI.

Keiser shook off some early cobwebs and used a massive fifth inning take the game. ​​​​​​

  • The Lions hit an RBI single to take an early lead, set up by two Keiser errors.

  • FHU scored another run on a on sac-fly to right field.

  • After leaving a runner stranded in the fourth, the Seahawks got the bases loaded with three singles that prompted a FHU pitching change.
  • The first KU run of the season was scored on a base-loaded walk from Lizzy Small.
  • Genesis Iglesias did the same in the following at bat to tie the game.
  • Tes DeBono gave Keiser the lead on an RBI single.
  • Molly Reid made a decisive play, and drove two runners in with a double to left center.
