Keiser men's soccer was dominant today in a 6-1 postseason victory over No. 22 Union (Ky.). The Seahawks got a sterling effort from
Justin Bangura (two goals one assist) and put six goals on the board to push past the Bulldogs and advance to the second round.
The Seahawks will face No. 3 Mobile (Ala.) this Saturday to face the Rams in a second round match.
- The Seahawks went straight to work after the opening whistle, and Justin Bangura was able to work free and score unassisted in the second minute
- For the next 22 minutes, the game locked up defensively, despite the Seahawks outshooting the Bulldogs 6-2 in that span
- In the 30th minute, a Union forward flipped the field on a long kick, and set up the Bulldogs lone goal of the match
- The game wouldn't stay tied for long, as Justin Bangura scored his second goal of the half seven minutes later with a Timo Boomkens assist
- Just two minutes later, the Seahawks took a two goal lead when Gabi Villafane was able to sneak past the Bulldog defense and score his fifth goal of the season, with Bangura providing the assist
- After the scoring flurry, the Seahawks went into halftime holding a 3-1 lead
- Coming out of the break, Union was aggressive in their attempts to regain control of the match, but the Bulldogs were whistled for eight fouls and two yellow cards in the first 12 minutes of the half
- In the 68th minute, Mikael Baisotti made a nice play to push a goal past the keeper and the far post for his sixth goal of the season
- Seven minutes later, Manex Landa collected the ball after a save by the Union goalie, and the native of Spain scored his first goal since September to increase Keiser's lead to four
- Just 36 seconds later, Landa drew a yellow card in the box, and he nailed a penalty kick to bring the Keiser advantage to five goals
- The Seahawks went into a defensive alignment from that point on and the match came to an end, 6-1
- Keiser's six goals were the most scored in regulation of a postseason match in program history
- The Seahawks took ten shots on goal
- Keiser outshot Union, 24-5
- The Seahawks took four corner kicks
- The Bulldogs were whistled for 20 fouls
- Santiago Nebot and Francis Bolland each played the full 90 minutes
- Bolland has played 90+ minutes in nine matches this season
- Villafane's goal gave him his 18th point of the season
- Bangura finished the day with a career-high five points
- Baisotti's goal put him back in the team lead (6)
