The Keiser Athletic Department announced this week's Seahawks HSS Athletes of the Week on Thursday. This week's winners, junior linebacker
Jaelin Willis and sophomore outside hitter
Brooklynn Slater were recognized for their performances during the week of September 3.
Jaelin Willis, Jr., LB, Fort Myers, Fla.
- Willis opened the 2023 season with a 12-tackle performance versus NCAA Division II foe Mississippi College.
- It marked the junior's sixth time in his career reaching double-digit in tackles and the second straight time he posted 10-or-more versus the Choctaws (14 at Mississippi College - 9/10/22).
- The native of Fort Myers, Florida, also recorded a career-high two forced fumbles in the contest.
- Following Thursday's efforts, Willis ranks No. 3 all-time at KU in career tackles (174) and is the school's all-time leader in forced fumbles (9).
Brooklynn Slater, So., OH, Las Vegas, Nev.
- The sophomore from Las Vegas, Nevada, racked up 72 kills in four matches.
- In addition to her kills, Slater added four service aces.
- Slater set a new career high in digs versus Cumberlands (Ky.) with 22.
- The second year outside hitter is averaging 4.3 kills per set.
- She currently leads the Sun Conference and the NAIA in total kills.
- Named the SUN Attacker of the Week in back-to-back weeks.
Both Willis and Slater will now be in the running for the Keiser Athlete of the Month (September) awarded in October which will be featured on ESPN West Palm (106.3 FM).
