Box Score Keiser men's tennis concluded their ITA Regionals in spectacular fashion once again, claiming the singles and doubles titles.
The day began with doubles action at the stadium court, where the two top seeds from the tournament would face off.
Soufiane El Mesbahi and
Shaheed Alam took advantage early, winning the first set 6-3. The second set would prove much closer, needing a tiebreaker that would go the way of El Mesbahi and Alam as they defeated
Didrik Liljekvist and
Heber Santos, 6-3, 7-6(3). The now champions would not get to celebrate for very long as they would go on to face each other an hour later in the singles championship. A fairly even set one went the way of El Mesbahi, who took the opener 6-4. In the second set, up 4-0, Alam mounted a comeback with new life and newer tennis balls. El Mesbahi would however weather the storm and claim the ITA Regional Title for himself with a 6-4, 6-3 win. Not only did El Mesbahi defend his half of the doubles title, he became the first winner since 2017 to win the singles title and a share of the doubles title.
Director of Tennis
Daniel Finn said, "Proud of the boys this week. This tournament is always one of the hardest and most grueling tournaments that there is. And this week, it was one of the hottest to remember. All of the matches they have to play all week long in the extreme heat against high-level competition just slowly takes the energy it out of you and beats the body down. That said, the boys did a great job of getting to this point for me. It was just a reward to get to watch the all-Keiser finals. Congratulations to Soufiane and Shaheed for winning the doubles title and to Soufiane for winning the singles title. Can't wait to see these boys compete up in Rome."
