In a battle between two teams in the NAIA Top 10, the No. 9-ranked Keiser men's soccer team opened the 2023 season with a 2-0 shutout of No. 2 Mobile on Thursday night.
 
Goalkeeper Santiago Nebot Oliver had a stellar night, registering seven saves to earn his first "clean sheet" of the season and the sixth shutout of his Keiser career.


.How it Happened
  • In a tale of two halves, the Seahawks blanked the Rams for the fourth straight time.
  • The Rams controlled most of the first half, outshooting the Seahawks, 10-0.
  • Despite the 10 shots, the Keiser defense shut down the Mobile attack as the Rams recorded just one shot on frame.
  • It was in the second half that Keiser used its offense efficiently, needing only three shots in the game to come away with the victory.
  • Alessio Silva broke the 0-0 tie in the 52nd minute.
  • From six yards out, Silva beat goalkeeper Ty Turner to break the scoreless draw, receiving a pass from Jack Casey, who earned his first assist of the season.
  • The Seahawks added an insurance goal in the 73rd minute as newcomer Jakob Schnitzler scored on a header off a Silva corner kick.
  • The Rams pushed trying to break the Seahawk defense but the Keiser back line and goalkeeper Santiago Nebot Oliver blanked the Rams, handing last years National runnerup their first loss of the season.
  • Nebot Oliver registered seven saves in the contest, including six in the second half. 
  • Silva, who entered the contest with one goal during his Keiser career, produced a goal and an assist for three points on Thursday.

  • Keiser opens the year with a shutout victory over the No. 2 in the nation.
  • With the win on Thursday, Keiser has now won eight straight season openers.
  • The win improves the Seahawks to 6-3 all-time versus Mobile (Ala.)
  • With the victory, Keiser has now won five straight over the Rams, including four straight shutouts.
  • Over the team's last five games versus the Rams, Keiser has outscored Mobile (Ala.), 8-1.
  • The last time Keiser played the Rams in Mobile, Alabama, was the start of the 2021 season. During that year, the Seahawks blanked the Rams to start the year on their way to winning the program's first National Championship (beating the same Mobile team in the championship game, 2-0). 
  • With Thursday's win, Keiser is now 5-1 versus ranked teams of the team's last six outings.
  • The shutout was the 83rd in Keiser history. 
  • Keiser produced nine shutouts last season.
