A Career-High Day for Foley Leads No. 1 Women's Lacrosse to Win over Benedictine, 16-15

Location: Blue Devils Field, Southfield, Mich.

Down by as much as three goals at one point, No. 1 Keiser women's lacrosse rallied from behind to defeat No. 8 Benedictine in the NAIA National Tournament Quarterfinal, 16-15. Chloe Foley led the way for the Seahawks with a career-best six-goal performance.


 

 
First Quarter
Benedictine 6, Keiser 5
  • Chloe Foley scored the first goal of the tournament after 90 seconds of play to put KU up 1-0.
  • Sydney Passaro followed on an assist from Foley to put the Seahawks up by two early.
  • Benedictine's Kaylen Moore would counter with two goals of her own to tie the game at 2-2 with 10:43 on the clock.
  • MacKenzie Gibaud followed with a spin off of her defender before ripping in her first goal of the game.
  • Two minutes later Abbey Cannon scored her first of the game to put Keiser up 4-2 with 7:50 showing.
  • Back-to-back goals by the Ravens over the next two minutes to tie the game back up at 4-4.
  • Gibaud tallied her second of the game with 1:27 left in the quarter to put KU up 5-4.
  • Benedictine would get the final two goals of the quarter to take a 6-5 lead heading into the second quarter.

Second Quarter
Benedictine 11, Keiser 9
  • Three minutes into the second quarter it was Talia Myers who tied the game at 6-6.
  • Following a goal from the Ravens, Samantha Esher put herself on the board tying the game at 7-7.
  • Cannon got her second of the day with 8:10 showing, giving Keiser an 8-7 advantage.
  • Benedictine would go on to score the next three goals and take a 10-8 lead with 6:11 left in the half.
  • Myers would get one back for the Seahawks, but the Ravens grabbed the final of the half to take an 11-9 lead into the break. 

Third Quarter
Benedictine 14, Keiser 13
  • Gibaud kicked off the third quarter with her hat trick goal to cut into the Ravens' lead.
  • Two more goals for Benedictine would grow their lead to 13-10 with just 6:27 left in the third.
  • At the 4:11 mark, Foley began her takeover, scoring back-to-back goals to cut the lead down to 13-12 with 3:35 still to play in the third.
  • Following Marguax Gelbach's fourth goal for the Ravens, Foley scored her fourth of the game to make it 14-13 in favor of Benedictine heading into the final 15 minutes of action.  

Fourth Quarter
Keiser 16, Benedictine 15
  • Moore opened the final period with her fifth goal to put Benedictine up 15-13 with 10:08 to play.
  • With 8:09 to play, Frew found Myers in the middle of the space who rocketed a shot into the net to pull Keiser within one.
  • 40 seconds later, Foley tied the game on a one-timer from Cannon to tie the game at 15-15.
  • With just over a minute left, Moore would get called for a charge on a goal that would get wiped off the board and turn the ball over to the Seahawks.
  • Rebecca Gibson would clear the ball for the Seahawks with the ball eventually worked to Foley who drew the free position attempt with 12 seconds left.
  • Foley would step up and bury the shot into the lower left-hand corner to give Keiser the lead. 
  • Myers went on to win the final draw control and keep the ball out of reach, pushing Keiser through to the semifinals.

KU Highlights
  • 8: Myers controlled the circle with eight draw controls in the contest.
  • 7/6: Foley led all scorers in the game with seven points and six goals.
  • 4: Sydney Parker led the team with four groundball pickups in the game.
  • 3/92: Credited with three caused turnovers in the game, Gibson is now tied for most career caused turnovers in program history with 92.
  • 3: Gibaud and Myers each earned hat tricks on the morning with three goals apeice.
  • 2: Cannon led the Seahawks in assists with two in the contest.
  • 2: Raelyn Boutwell earned her second win of the year in relief with two saves.
  • 1/100: With her goal in the early moments of the game, Passaro reached the 100 career points milestone.
  • 1-of-5: Keiser was 0-of-4 in free-position shots before Foley's goal in the last seconds of the matchup.
