Keiser Splits Tuesday Doubleheader with Florida Memorial

The Keiser softball team split a conference doubleheader versus Florida Memorial this afternoon. The Seahawks were able to win the first game thanks to a quick start and a few FMU errors, but gave up a flurry of hits and runs in the second game to bring their season record to 15-13, 4-4. 

Game One
Keiser Seahawks 6, Florida Memorial Lions 4
Pitchers of Record: W: Small (11-6) L: Morales (1-7)

  • Lizzy Small went the distance, striking out three batters over seven innings of work. (114 pitches)

Keiser was able to take an early lead, and withstood a late rally from the Lions to win the first game.

  • The Lions struck first on an RBI single.

  • KU was quick to counter and tied the game when Alex Perez reached on an RBI fielder's choice.
  • Neveah Loveridge picked up an RBI when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. 
  • Perez scored when Macy Schaaf hit a sac-fly to left field.

  • Keiser got their last run of the game in when Macy Schaaf crossed the plate on a wild pitch.

  • Despite a big Keiser lead, FMU would not go down easy. With one out on the board, the Lions got a run home with an RBI single.
  • Two more runs came in on a 2 RBI single.

  • Kelsie Merriman was on the hook for the loss after giving up six earned runs. (61 pitches)
  • Tes DeBono made a relief appearance and struck out one batter. (16 pitches)
  • Faith Fournier pitched one inning in relief of DeBono. (8 pitches)
  • Maggie Miller pitched the final two innings, and struck out the side in the sixth. (28 pitches)

  • The Seahawks had a solid day at the plate, but gave up 17 hits and fell in game two.

  • Keiser got off to a scorching start in the second game, and Ashley Bullock got things going with an RBI single. 
  • Kelsie Merriman was able to bring Tess McGann home with a sacrifice fly. 
  • Molly Reid smacked a double to right center that scored Ashley Bullock, and then a Lion throwing error allowed Reid to race home on the same play.

  • Florida Memorial answered the Seahawks scoring run, and knocked in three runs with an RBI double, an RBI single, and a sacrifice fly.

  • The Lions tied the game with an RBI single. 
  • Florida Memorial took the lead on a 2 RBI double to center field.

  • FMU got another two runs in with a 2 RBI single up the middle.

  • After holding FMU off the scoreboard for the two final innings, the Seahawks came up to bat in their final chance to tie the game.
  • Ashley Bullock reached first base with a single, and Molly Reid got on base with a single of her own, but the Lions got the final out of the game with the tying runs stuck on first and second base.
