Keiser Goes 1-1 On Final Day of Ave Maria Series

The Keiser softball team dropped to 11-11, 3-3 on the year this afternoon after splitting a doubleheader versus Ave Maria. The Seahawks shut out the Gyrenes in game one, and fell in extra innings in the second game.

  • Lizzy Small pitched her second complete game shutout of the season, and struck out two batters. (108 pitches)

Keiser took advantage of a fantastic pitching appearance from Lizzy Small, and scored three unanswered late runs.

  • After leaving five runners stranded on base in the first four innings, Keiser's first run of the day was scored when Alex Perez crossed home plate on a wild pitch.

  • The Seahawks went toe-to-toe with the Gyrenes through their third extra-inning game of the season, but ultimately fell in the ninth.

  • It took extra innings to produce the first run of the day, which was an RBI groundout for Ave Maria.

  • Down by one, the Seahawks moved pinch runner Molly Woerner to third with a sacrifice bunt. 
  • Two batters later, Ashley Bullock hit a clutch RBI single that scored Woerner and tied the game.

  • The Gyrenes were able to reclaim the lead when an errant throw allowed a runner to score from third, after tagging and moving up on a fly-out.

  • Unfortunately for Keiser, the tying run was left stranded on third base when the game ended on a fly-out to right field.
