In their first game sporting the new No. 1 ranking next to their name, the Keiser men's tennis team cruised to a 6-1 victory over their Division II crosstown opponents, Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday afternoon.
- Yassir Kilani and Martin Carrizo were first off the courts with a 6-1 win on court two.
- Keiser clinched the doubles point on court three as Gaston Cantero and Soufiane El Mesbahi handled their opponents, 6-2.
- PBA would grab the win on court one but the Seahawks would take a 1-0 lead into singles play.
- No. 9 Carrizo put KU up 2-0 on court five with a 6-1, 6-1 win.
- No. 7 Kilani followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win on court four to keep the momentum going.
- Cantero clinched the match for Keiser on court three with a 6-2, 6-2 win.
- No. 8 El Mesbahi and Heber Santos followed with wins of their own to push the Seahawks' lead up to 6-0.
- The Sailfish would capture a lone point on court one with a 3-6, 6-2, 1-0(7) win.
"Not good enough today from the guys," said Head Coach,
Daniel Finn, "I'm not happy to see us come out as flat as we did today. In the end, the guys did what they needed to do to get the win, but our level of intensity and execution has to get better. Today, the boys were able to force their will on them once we settled in, but starts like we had today need to be a thing of the past. On a positive note, we were able to see some areas that we could improve and came out with a win. However, we have some work to do this week as we get ready for next week's match."
Keiser will have an exhibition with Eastern Florida State on February 25 before opening up conference play on March 1 against St. Thomas.
