No. 11 Men's Soccer Advances to NAIA Final Site on Penalties, 5-4

The No. 11-ranked Keiser men's soccer team survived and advanced this afternoon defeating the Conquistadors of Florida National in penalty kicks 5-4. This marks the second straight game Keiser has defeated a ranked opponent on penalties. The Seahawks will head back to the NAIA National Championship final site for the first time since 2021 when they claimed the national title.
 

.How it Happened
  • Keiser would start off the offense strong with two corner kicks coming off the boot of senior Jack Casey.
  • Shortly afterwards Casey had shot hit the crossbar in the 11th minute.
  • In the 20th minute, Santiago Nebot would become a record-breaker for the second time this season after recording his 77th save of the season off a shot from Florida National's Nicolas Martinez.
  • After a breakaway in the 25th minute, freshman Fami Konate drew a foul and the Seahawks were awarded with a penalty kick.
  • Mikael Baisotti went on to net his fifth penalty kick of the season keeping his perfect penalty kick streak alive, and giving Keiser a 1-0 lead.
  • In the 38th minute, the Conquistadors evened the score at 1-1 when Bautista Dominguez received a pass from Marcos Bakale to net the ball into the right side.
  • The two teams entered the second half firing five shots each.
  • The second half of play was primarily with Florida National as they kept the Seahawks off the board with a tight defense and strong possession.
  • In the 63rd minute, Florida National took a 2-1 lead over Keiser with a goal from Manuel Rodriguez.
  • The 88th minute, Timo Boomkens came in clutch for the Seahawks and fired a rocket of a shot to the top right corner for the game-tying goal leading Keiser to overtime with a score of 2-2.
  • The Seahawks and Conquistadors played two 10-minute periods of overtime where the two squads combined for a total of five shots.
  • The squads went onto penalty kicks where the Seahawks would advance to the NAIA Final Site with a penalty kick goal from Noah Southwell.

  • Mikael Baisotti is a perfect five-for-five in penalty kicks this season, he is now the school record holder in penalty kicks made in a single season surpassing former Seahawk Adrian Camacho Castro.
  • Timo Boomkens scored his third goal of the season in a timely matter with just two minutes left in full time.
  • This marks the fifth trip to the NAIA National Championships final site for the Seahawks, the third for head coach Gavin Oldham.

The Seahawks will head to Wichita, Kansas and play their round of 16 matchup of the NAIA National Championships against Indiana Tech on November 28th. The time is TBD.
