No. 11 Men's Soccer Claims Second Straight Sun Conference Title

The No. 11-ranked Keiser men's soccer team took down the No. 3 St. Thomas Bobcats in a battle of South Florida in the Sun Conference Championship. The Seahawks claimed back-to-back tournament titles. Keiser took St. Thomas to double-overtime before forcing penalty kicks to claim the championship title. Four players were named to the All-Tournament team, goalkeeper Santiago Nebot, defender Timo Boomkens, forward Fami Konate and the Most Valuable Player, Mikael Baisotti.

.How it Happened
  • The Bobcats of St. Thomas started the night off by firing two shots trying to get on the board.
  • The Keiser bench was given a yellow card at the three minute mark of the match.
  • St. Thomas returned the favor when Angelo Bernandes was called and given a yellow as well.
  • Timo Boomkens was handed a yellow card at the nine minute mark leading to a free kick for St. Thomas.
  • The Bobcats took full advantage of the possession as Tomas Persico found the back of the net for the 1-0 lead just 11 minutes into the match,
  • However, the Seahawks did not stay quiet as freshman Mikael Baisotti took a cross from Jack Casey to the house tying the match up in the 15th minute to even the score at 1-1.
  • In the first half, Keiser was outshot 12-2 with limited possession of the ball.
  • Five Seahawks had yellow cards by the first half.
  • Keiser and St. Thomas continued to fight over possession, St. Thomas held the upper hand outshooting Keiser 10-0.
  • Multiple shots from St. Thomas hit the crossbar where the Bobcats almost took the lead.
  • Defensively, Timo Boomkens and Jakob Schnitzler helped Santiago Nebot keep the ball out of the net by blocking and heading the Bobcats' shots.
  • Nebot made three saves in the second half of play.
  • In the 73rd minute, Aldair Chavez was given his second yellow card of the night forcing him to exit the match.
  • Starting the first found of overtime (10 minutes), the Bobcats landed one shot as both teams fought for possession while recording four corner kicks.
  • Leading into the second round of another 10 minutes, St. Thomas fired two shots while the Seahawks focused on defense to keep them off the board. The two squats finished the two rounds and headed into penalty kicks.
  • Keiser made seven out of nine attempts while St. Thomas made six leading the Seahawks to take the victory over the Bobcats for the championship title for the second straight year.
