No. 1 Women's Tennis

Perez Flores Becomes All-Time Wins Leader as Women's Tennis Competes on Day Two of Nova Shark Bite Invite

Keiser women's tennis was back for their most difficult test of the Nova Shark Bite Invite on Saturday, facing No. 2 Nova Southeastern in doubles and No. 4 Flagler in singles. The ladies went 1-2 in doubles action and 5-1 in singles.

The Seahawks began doubles with a strong start as Katie Visnevscaia and Florencia Araya won on court three 6-1 over Kayla Solagnier and Patricie Kusikova. Keiser would fall on the remaining doubles courts to NSU with 6-3 scores reported for each. Singles play had strong matches all around beginning with Visnevscaia taking down Laura Jipescu on court two 6-1, 6-1. Araya and Violet Apisah followed with wins on courts six and one before Flagler managed their first point. Following Vanja Vidanovic's win, the eyes turned to court three where Isabella Perez Flores fought through a second set tiebreak to force a super tiebreaker third set. Perez Flores would best Toni Pfeiffer to become the all-time leader in wins for Keiser women's tennis with her 57th career victory.

Coach's Corner

Head Coach Daniel Finn said, "I thought we had a slow start today across the board in doubles. Nova has a strong team and tactically plays doubles well, but truthfully, slow starts really crushed us today. I didn't feel like we executed well and just looked a step off. Singles was clearly a lot better today. I thought the girls did a great job of controlling themselves and playing the important points really well. The windy conditions today didn't make anything easier with wind gusts blowing in. It really made it difficult to find a rhythm. That said, to take five of the six singles matches today against a top-five team in Division II, especially after the way we started, gives us something to be happy about. Tomorrow won't get any easier with doubles against Florida Southern and singles against Nova. We know we will have to be at our best again. When it comes to the record, I'm really proud of Isa. Congrats to her. She is one of those players who brings it day in and day out, regardless of the situation. Her energy for the past four years has been a true catalyst for this team. It's always helped everyone else so we're certainly happy to see her get recognized for an award like this. Obviously, with just being in the fall, I would expect her to certainly push that record up higher, knowing she has been and will continue to be a staple of solidarity in our lineup. She has certainly put herself in the history books with some great company."
