No. 17 Keiser women's soccer used two first-half goals to secure the 2-0 win over Ave Maria on Saturday afternoon. Both goals would come within three minutes of each other with
Mifumi Sasanuma scoring the opener just before
Sofie Sørum doubled the lead. The shutout is the eighth of the season for the Seahawks to go along with holding the opponents under six shots for the 10th time this year.
- Keiser tried their hand at breaking through the Gyrene defense early with three consecutive shots in the first 12 minutes.
- Ave Maria had their first chance in the 14th minute but the weak shot would be saved easily by Zara Board.
- In the 16th minute, Emilia Nilsson nearly scored but her shot would ricochet off the right post and bounce back in to play.
- Emily Payne had her chance on a free kick in the 24th minute but the Gyrene goalkeeper would be up to the task and make the save.
- She would get another chance in the 33rd minute and again fire a shot on goal. This time the keeper would not be able to make a clean grab and Mifumi Sasanuma would clean up the chance to put Keiser ahead 1-0.
- Two and a half minutes later, Georgia Little delivered a cross from the corner kick with Sofie Sørum able to get her head on it and bounce it into the net for a 2-0 Seahawks lead.
- Little would nearly have another assist in the 37th minute but a header from Nynka Rucker was blocked by a Gyrene defender.
- The Seahawks would go into the half with the lead and a 15-1 shot advantage.
- Early in the second, Sørum had another chance on a corner but her header was saved by a defender on the line.
- Board would be called on for a few more saves over the next 20 minutes as she kept the clean sheet alive.
- Keiser would continue to push forward up until the final whistle, taking the 2-0 win at home.
- Keiser picked up their 10th win of the season on Saturday, moving to 10-4-2 on the year.
- The Seahawks remain in fourth place in the Sun Conference standings with a 7-3-2 record.
- Sasanuma's goal was the fourth of the season for the newcomer.
- Sørum now has two goals on the year with both coming off corner kick crosses.
- The Sun Conference leader in assists added another to her total as Little now has 11 on the year.
- Board picked up her eighth win in goal and her sixth shutout of the season making three saves in the contest.
- As a team, the Seahawks have eight shutouts on the year.
- Keiser has also held opponents to under six shots on 10 different occasions.
