Keiser women's tennis wrapped a strong second day at the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia. The girls went 2-1 in singles play and 1-1 in their doubles matches.
Once again,
Violet Apisah and
Katie Visnevscaia showed little struggle with their opponents today with both taking 6-0, 6-1 victories in their quarterfinal matchups.
Isabella Perez Flores did fall in her match to the No. 4 seeded Teodora Jovic from Georgia Gwinnett in a close 4-6, 6-7(1) match. In doubles play, Apisah and
Vanja Vidanovic cruised through the first set before figuring out the mix of formations and serves coming from Elena Gunfaus and Anna Ruiz Masip of Westcliff. In the end, the Keiser pair came out victorious, 6-2, 7-6(4). Perez Flores and her partner
Yeva Kononovych would take the first set 6-4 before falling in the second set 4-6. The third set belonged to the top-seeded McKenna Wheatley and Mbali Langa of Xavier (La.) who claimed the 10-3 super tiebreak for the win. The singles bracket now houses just Keiser and Georgia Gwinnett with both having matchups against themselves and guaranteeing another Seahawks vs. Grizzlies matchup in the final.

Head Coach
Daniel Finn said, "Violet and Katie came out really locked in from the start. With the rain delay and moving indoors, I was concerned if we would be able to continue the momentum and they didn't skip a beat. Both girls played some very solid singles today. As for the matchup against one another, that will be up to them to settle. You just want to see them compete hard and respect one another, and I have faith they will. They have already played once this fall and it was some high-quality tennis and I'd expect more of the same tomorrow. Doubles honestly wasn't our best showing. The scores early on were heavy in our favor, but those who could see it could see some sloppy play. It ended up costing Yeva and Isa in the end, but Violet and Vanja got through. In the end, they played solid when it mattered and found a way through. We will adjust and focus on making sure we come out with a concentrated effort throughout tomorrow. We are in the semifinals tomorrow with chances to get into the championship in singles and doubles. We won't take that opportunity lightly, and we will get some rest and prepare for a tough day tomorrow."
