Men's Basketball Drops Overtime Contest to St. Thomas, 91-83

Keiser men's basketball fell in an overtime game to the St. Thomas Bobcats on Saturday night in West Palm Beach, Fla. Five players for the Seahawks ended with double-digit point totals to end the game.

With 55 seconds left in the overtime period, Fred Mulbah hit a layup to put the Bobcats ahead by four that sparked a 6-0 run to end the game.
 
 
How it Happened


First Half
Keiser 47, St. Thomas 39
  • Core'von Lott had Keiser rolling early, scoring five of the first seven points for the Seahawks.
  • A quick 8-0 response from the Bobcats gave STU their first lead of the night at the 16:09 mark, ahead 10-7.
  • Keiser flipped the script with an 8-0 run of their own capped by a DaQuan Williams three-pointer to put KU up five.
  • Both sides would take turns scoring before a Milton Matthews three put STU ahead 22-20 with just over 10 minutes left in the first.
  • The game would remain close over the next three minutes of action before Fred Mulbah went to the line to put the Bobcats up 32-27 with 7:14 showing.
  • Back-to-back threes by Lott and Sinai Enoch put the Seahawks ahead 33-32 with 6:08 left to play.
  • Following a layup from STU, Keiser jumped ahead with a 10-2 run with five more points from Enoch.
  • St. Thomas ended the half on a 5-4 run but it was Lott who got the final points of the half.

Second Half
Keiser 80, St. Thomas 80
  • St. Thomas attacked early in the second half, using a 12-4 run to tie the game which forced Keiser to use a timeout going into a media break.
  • Enoch and Brandon Younger had the response for Keiser with back-to-back and-1's to take a six-point lead with 12:19 on the clock.
  • Both sides would trade baskets as each hit a three-pointer and a layup to leave the score at 62-56 at the 9:23 mark.
  • The next three minutes would show similar results before a Jordan Hernandez three-pointer got the Bobcats within two with just under six minutes left in the second.
  • Each side would have an answer for each basket before Shaquille Harris put KU up by one from the free-throw line with 2:30 showing.
  • Keiser would go on a late run to stretch their lead to six on a Harris three-pointer with 26 seconds left.
  • STU would end regulation with a three-point play from the line forcing a turnover and hitting a three-pointer with two seconds left to send the game into overtime.

Overtime

St. Thomas 91, Keiser 83

  • Each side would score early with Matthews hitting a layup before Justin Tucker slammed home a dunk with just under 40 seconds passing.
  • St. Thomas took control of the matchup with 2:54 remaining as D'Andre  Johnson splashed a three-pointer to put STU up three.
  • Following a Lott free-throw, a minute and thirty seconds of scoreless action passed before Mulbah tacked on two more for St. Thomas to give them an 87-83 lead.
  • Keiser could not get their final shots to fall as Dalon Dean sunk the last four free throws for St. Thomas to give them the 91-83 overtime win.

  • Keiser drops to 21-17 all-time against the Bobcats, 11-7 on the home floor.
  • With the loss, the Seahawks will remain in the five spot of the conference standings.

  • Brandon Younger notched his second double-double of the season with 13 points to go along with a team-best 10 rebounds.

  • Sinai Enoch and Shaquille Harris rounded out the double-digit scorers with 16 and 10 respectively.
  • Keiser won the rebounding battle on the night over St. Thomas 44-40.
