Led by Julia Fitzwater's career-high 21 point, the Keiser women's basketball team cruised past the Thomas Night Hawks, 70-59, on Saturday afternoon. With two players scoring 20+ points (Fitzwater - 21, Kennedy Schlabach - 20), the Seahawks went on a 22-0 run in the fourth quarter to lead to the team's fourth conference victory of the season.

How it Happened


First Quarter

Thomas (Ga.) 20, Keiser 12
  • Lenise Santiago gave the Night Hawks an early 3-0 lead with the game's first bucket at the 9:04 mark.
  • Thomas (Ga.) extended their game-opening 8-0 run with Santiago's second 3-pointer (6:56).
  • A layup by Santiago gave the Night Hawks a 10-0 lead after three minutes of action.
  • Kennedy Schlabach notched the first bucket of the game for the Seahawks with a 3-pointer, 10-3.
  • Thirty seconds later, Schlabach hit her second straight 3-pointer to make it 10-6 with 5:27 left in the first.
  • The Night Hawks pushed their lead back to 10, 18-8, following a pair of made free throws by Jade Studamire (3:49).
  • Elise Ellison-Coons made the final bucket of the quarter with a layup with 51 seconds remaining (20-12).

Second Quarter

Keiser 26, Thomas (Ga.) 24
  • A tip-in by Elliana Schaefer cut the Night Hawk's lead to 20-14 with 9:42 on the game clock.
  • Sparked by Schaefer's tip-in, the Seahawks used an 8-2 run to pull within two points, 22-20, (5:58).
  • After a jumper by TU's Santiago made it a 24-20 game, Schlabach nailed a shot from downtown to make it a one-point game with 2:33 remaining in the half.
  • With 53 second left in the first half, Schlabach gave KU the lead with her fourth 3-pointer, 26-24.

Third Quarter

Thomas (Ga.) 43, Keiser 41
  • Julia Fitzwater extended Keiser's lead to 29-24 with her second 3-pointer of the game (9:30).
  • Ellison-Coons hit a jumper with 6:54 to give the Seahawks a 34-31 lead (6:54).
  • A 6-0 run by the Night Hawks gave Thomas a 37-34 lead with 4:23 on the game clock.
  • Taylor Jones used an "And-1" situation to give Keiser a 41-40 lead (1:07).
  • TU's Jade Studamire hit a 3-pointer to give the Night Hawk's a 43-41 lead after three quarters.

Fourth Quarter

Keiser 70, Thomas (Ga.) 59
  • Keiser put the game out of reach with a 22-0 run to start the fourth.
  • During that run, the Seahawks shot 6-of-9 from the floor, 6-of-6 from the free-throw line and was 4-of-5 from beyond the arc.
  • The run - that lasted 5:45 - saw Fitzwater score nine points, Schlabach post six, and Ellison-Coons add five.
  • TU's Studamire hit a 3-pointer to end the run, making it a 63-46 game in favor of the Seahawks with 3:21 remaining.
  • The Seahawks maintain their double-digit lead for the final three minutes to claim their fourth conference victory.
