A chance to send the game to overtime came up short as the Keiser men's basketball team fell to the Ave Maria Gyrenes, 64-62, during the Sun Conference Men's Basketball Tournament quarterfinals on Tuesday.
With the loss, Keiser ends the 2021-22 season with a 12-16 (6-10 SUN) record.
An offensive rebound by the Gyrenes off a missed free throw by Matt Gillis, gave AMU a second chance to extend its 62-60 lead with 1:12 left to play. On the ensuing inbound play, Chase Culpepper gave the Gyrenes a 64-60 lead with just under a minute left in the game. On the next possession,
Antwan Claxton cut the deficit to two, 64-62 with 40 second remaining. After
Quinton Glaspie grabbed the defensive rebound with seven ticks on the clock, KU had one last shot to either tie the game or take the lead. A jumper by Claxton and a tip-in attempt as time expired missed the mark resulting in the two-point loss.
