No. 9 Men's Soccer Stomp St. Thomas for Sun Conference Championship

No. 9 men's soccer had an impressive performance Friday afternoon, the Seahawks won the Sun Conference Championship in a 4-1 win against the No.7 St. Thomas Bobcats. Santiago Nebot Oliver, Nick Akoto, Rui Reis, Lucas Jacobs, and Alejandro Varela Sabio were named All-Tournament. Varela Sabio was also named MVP of the Sun Conference tournament. 

.How it Happened
  • In under two minutes, Keiser was award a corner kick for the first shot coming off the foot of Adrian Camacho Castro for the action to begin.
  • The Bobcats fired right back as the Seahawks knocked two shots before a foul was called on Keiser that led to a penalty kick in under ten minutes of play St Thomas' Fernando Arzeno took the kick to the right side where Nebot Oliver made one of his best saves all season.
  • A few minutes later, Alexander Stéen crossed to Jacobs who then passed to Reis to score the first goal of the match for the Seahawks to take the 1-0 lead.
  • Later, the dynamic duo of Reis and Jacobs yet again put the Seahawks on top this time came from the right side for a two goal lead for Keiser.
  • At the half, Nebot Oliver racked up four saves and Keiser registered 11 shots total.
  • Just after halftime, the Seahawks turned to sophomore goalkeeper James Kennedy.
  • At the 60 minute mark, a foul was called against St Thomas where the Seahawks were awarded a penalty kick. Stéen took charge and notched his ninth goal of the season for the Seahawks 3-0 jump on the Bobcats.
  • After a handful of substitutions for the Seahawks, Nickolas Cam Orellana notched his second goal of the season (4-0).
  • With three minutes remaining, St Thomas headed one into the net to erase the shutout.
   Game Notes
  • Keiser is now 13-10-6 all-time in the Sun Conference Tournament.
  • With today's win, the Seahawks beat the Bobcats for the first time since 2020.
  • SUN Freshman of the Year Reis now leads the Seahawks with 12 goals and nine assists.
  • The Seahawks claim the Sun Conference Tournament and Regular Season Champions for the first time since 2019.
  • Sun Conference Player of the Year Jacobs assisted on two goals today adding to his total of six.
  • Junior, Stéen notched the first penalty kick goal of his career.
  • A total of 40 fouls were called during today's match.
