No. 6 Men's Soccer Claims NAIA Opening Round Championship, Advances to Final Site

No. 6 Keiser University advanced to the NAIA Final Site with a 1-0 shutout of No. 13 Mobile in the NAIA Opening Round Championship game in West Palm Beach, Fla. The Seahawks recorded back-to-back shutouts in the NAIA Opening Round games.

In today's victory, Ciro Damine became the all-time leading scorer (53) while the team set a new season record for wins (16). KU will now prepare for their next match in Evans, Ga., starting on May 4th.

How it Happened
  • The opening half was a stalemate with KU holding a 7-4 edge in shots.
  • Adrian Camacho Castro and Lucas Jacobs had three shots apiece.
  • Mobile had a one-on-one chance for the first goal of the game in the 51st minute but Dario Salzar was up to the task with a big save as the game remained scoreless.
  • One minute later, Hannu Tam had his wide-open shot from the top of the box saved.
  • In the 63rd minute, Damine had his header saved by a falling down keeper.
  • Damine hit the post in the 72nd minute with a header off a 40-yard free kick.
  • A great attempt by Camacho Castro from 25-yards out was punched over the bar for a Keiser corner kick in the 80th minute.
  • Damine became the all-time leader in goals with his header in the 89th minute, finishing off a great cross by Camacho Castro as Keiser claimed the NAIA Opening Round Championship, 1-0.

Game Notes
  • Keiser set a new program record for wins in a season, 16, surpassing the previous mark of 15 in 2008.
  • The Seahawks moved to 5-5-1 in NAIA National Tournament games.
  • KU advanced to the NAIA Final Site for the first time since 2017.
  • This was the third meeting of the spring between these two teams with KU holding the 2-1 edge.
  • Keiser is 2-1 against NAIA Top 25 teams this season.
  • Salzar picked up his second straight shutout while Keiser now has seven on the year.
